  1. I have Poddy Minnows in my stock, even have them still in packets.I have been catching Mullies on them for many years, 5.95 each when they came out.Its basically all I"ve pretty much ever used.But....the other lure for casting that runs a close second is a cheap one called a Silver Hunter, which can be bought in some tackle stores. There are more fancy lures around than this particular lure but it has the runs on the board for me and it casts better than pretty much all the others around as well.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gifOne of my Poddys, they only come out the pack unless I lose one

    Getting smoked

Yep I would love to go one on one with that beast on something like that.Even things up a bit.Thats a big gutsy surf rod that one hes using, by the look a big 5 or 6 wrap 13 foot Wilson or similar, they use them for monster mullies ect.And it was totally flattened out and out of its depth, making no impression on the beast.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  3. Not 100% sure MC, I am pretty slack really , I do have a set of scales with a tape but always forget to take them.It was 40 + I"d say looking at brentons pic it was around the same size as his.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif

    Getting smoked

50lb Braid Mullies Chaser {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifThe guys in the vid said it was a large thresher shark that apparently had been feeding close inshore to the beach they were fishing.Totally outgunned on surf tackle, thats a TLD with 1000 metres of 60 pound mono job that one.Matched to a Sabre LBG stroker or similar {SMILIES_PATH}/shocked.gif
  5. This pic will probably be a slider, but what the heck, one I caught a while back.Click for full size {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  6. I will probably get bagged for saying this elsewhere, but the guys on this forum seem cool. Now i fished up the murray since i was a kid but never hardly saw any cod only small ones.In the last few years it seems all the rage to get them trolling with the latest advances in gear /lures/ electric motor technology. But the guys doing this by putting themselves up on forums going on how great it is, have alerted many to a fishery that most never knew existed. Many more are doing it, no none has any 100% idea of the mortality rate of holding up a big cod, now I see they hold them under the water
  7. Hope its ok to link up a vid, a guy on a WA forum put this link up of getting absolutely destroyed, you should see the aftermath on the Shimano Spheros drag washers.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gifhttp://au.youtube.com/watch?v=VX7m3WhgC_Y
  8. I went for squid testicles, only problem is I normally save them for the table, a bit of egg and breadcrumb..............delicious!
  9. G"day Fred,I guess in deep water that a paternosta style would be the go, less tangles and it gives you the flexibility of using a heavier sinker.Pretty sure a lot of the Whyalla guys use a running ezy rig with a swivel then their hook trace and change the sinker weight to suit the conditions. And the shallow water a running sinker as light as can be gotten away with to keep things as natural as possible. When I use to fish with my brother a bit for Snaps over YP, it was quite shallow and all we used was no weight, just a swivel.Unweighted pillies drifted back in the burley trail were th
  10. G"day guys, here is my biggest, in fact only Tench I"ve ever caught {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif Being keen on freshwater fishing it was an ambition to get one and was spinning for Reddies on a small stream when it took a squidgey rigged up with a spinnerbait blade. The best fighting freshwater fish I"ve ever had and would go as far as saying it would of went as hard as many saltwater fish as well.Caught it 2 weeks ago, and would love to get them wired , could handle a fight like that again. {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif It weighed 6lb 6 and was 20 inches from head to tail.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.g
  11. This isnt about the One That Got Away, but stuff it I found it funny so here goes. {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif A mate and I took our missuses up the hills, the plan being we drop them off at the pub , so they could have a couple and play the pokies. And we would sneak down to my fave resevoir redfin spot for an hour or so then pick them up.Now , yes as we know its not excactly legal to fish Ressies, but we were all young and silly once I guess. We snuck over the fence , and carefully and slyly hid in this out of the way spot as to avoid being seen and proceeded to fish. After no fish
  12. LOL guys, You might get a laugh out of this one.My brother and I for years have fished a tidal beach north of adelaide for the primo YFW that hunt the channels and sandbanks there. This one trip as per usual we got there early and went about the backbreaking but neccessary ritual of digging live seaweed worms.Once we had our bait the long 2 k walk out following the receeding tide to the best channels. The Whiting were touchy at first and we had to work for them, but finally we started to get a good school on the bite. One after the other they were put into our shoulder bags till it was
  13. I once had huge Snook off Wallaroo Jetty. It was cruising under the lights, refusing to take anything.I caught a small gar on my light rod and quickly put it on live.Straight away he was on,As I lifted him up the jetty[no crab net] I just about had him up and he flipped hit the side and came free.It sort of just hung there for a second , it was like a bad dream. Then what seemed like slow motion it dropped to the water, like a big turd it went plop, just layed on the surface then slinked off to the inky depths. It was the biggest one I"d ever seen[of course]LOL
  14. Yeah thats all great, but in all honesty, lets get real here guys. The government does as it pleases always will always has.For example the workplace relations, people despise it and it effects millions , and in opposition there were university trained big union knobs ect ect, rallies and all sorts. But it got passed. So what hope has something like a "Trout Paper" or marine parks or anything else got hope for. What are we going to do, get 50 letters in opposition , the majority of people are to busy trying to pay the mortgage, school fees, weekly budget ect ect to even know these issues exist.A
  15. Call me a party pooper or a scrooge, but my heart sinks when I realise that my carefully prepared Mully bait gets hit, the reel screams and I realise its a ray.Even worse if its an unstoppable smoothie.Sorry guys but I hate it.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  16. G"day guys, I make some traces up for when darkness falls on the beach or your at a spot where bities are on the cards. Not the be all and end all but witout using a heavy wire trace, and still works well on the salmon and mullies. You can buy them commercialy but they have 4 hooks and only the one size. The beauty of making your own is that you can make them whatever size for your own needs.Just get some wire, put your bottom hook on and crimp it.Then add a piece of plastic fluro tubing the distance you want , just so it has a bit of play. Then add your next hook by simply sliding it on.Th
  17. The only difference between those hard ones and the blowup ones is when a White grabs them, the hard ones go Snap, Crackle and the blowup ones go Pop!Sorry guys, just having a laugh {SMILIES_PATH}/shocked.gifops:
  18. Nice bronzies there guys.In all seriousness, The only rod I would target anything the size of the one and above in my pic from the beach would be, A Sabre 540 or one of the 12/15kilo Live FibresThe rod has got to have grunt to shift them as they like to sit almost ray like , then recharge themselves and go for broke.Lost one at Daleys last year that rubbed me off right at the death, probably around 7 foot and that thing sat doggo 3 or 4 times during the fight then took off on 50 metre runs as strong as its first run.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  19. This one took a bait intended for Salmon.Hooked it through the snout, so it didnt bite me off.It went ballistic and some of the runs had to be seen to be believed. One nasty critter.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  20. The patterns that seem to work the best for them is late afternoon high tide, but not the huge tides up to 2m is ideal., definately full moon, and that rotten afternoon sea breeze and any time of year but late Summer Autumn to stir it up a bit.If this may help.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif And shallow water up to 1.5 metres. http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/ZLF97VhS__flattty_2.jpg[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/zV8aJ1Ec__flatty_1.jpg[/img]
  21. Nice little Snaps there Butters, from the Port as well. Many many moons ago say 30 years ago[showing my age]I remember my older brother used to go out from St Kilda around the Torrens Island area and as a little kid I remember the HUGE Snapper they used to bring back.Around the cutting and the channel systems used to be hot for monster Reds at certain times of the year. And one thing that really sticks in my mind was when they cleaned them the guts was always full of smashed up Blueys.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  22. Forgot that one srick, doh!Somehow I got caught up talking about Port River Mullies. My biggest Mully was actually caught on a nice fresh inky squid head.Definately agree with you Fred, well said mate, I had been put off fishing sites for the reasons you mentioned.Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
  23. The funny thing is that there are people in this world using 800 dollar outfits and all they catch is mullies like that.[and Bream]
  24. Hey bennyboy, you should of stuck around, its mother could of been nearby.By the look of it, it wasnt born very long ago! Cheers {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif
