Of course fish feel pain! They are a vertebrate species with a spinal chord, nerve endings and respond to stimuli and all that. I think the initial study mentioned is saying that fish brains aren't developed enough to experience the emotional stress and trauma that higher animals like mammals (including us)experience when we are hurt.Oh yeah and that "Daddy kills" leaflet has been around for a long time. I had a really good laugh when I first read it!
