buy an alvey...rinse it and forget it....seriously though... my egg beater, and adu7000 after a fish cop a soak in HOT water., with a bit of car wash added, then its rinsed off, and left to dry in the sun....seems to desolve the salt better.the rods get a regular wax with turtle wax, and it keeps them in pretty good condition and a lot cleaner.my only trouble with the spinners and overhead, is they dont get a great deal of use, where the alvey gets used 2-5 times a week.i really should oil the alvey more often, but there is no need to.it dont have bearings of rubbish like that.its been going for over 20 yrs, so i must be doing something right with it

i for one wouldnt like to see it....i dont normally fish from a boat, i prefer the challenge of the rocks...would be nice to be able to continue to do so, but i personally think, if they want it...they will get it...regardless if anyone else doesnt want it.

spencer gulf is already high in salt....we dont get the flushing of the open ocean with it being a gulf....

workmate cold smokes his snapper..... has the fish away, and pipes the smoke to the fish...takes a LOT longer, but the taste is different and he says tastier....

ants do a fantastic job of cleaning... they get into everything.bro in law got a 6 ft bronze a few years ago, cant remember how he set them, but im sure chopsticks were involved... left them in the bush near a bull ants nest.... week later, they were really clean.

ive only used this method on my abu 7000 and ugly stick... with the alvey ive used it enough to sort of get a feel for where it should be.... when its in the rocks holder, its backed right off so the fish can run, after i strike, i tighten the drag by instinct.....

when i fish the shore, i have a piece of dowel...well i DID have a peice of dowel, until i snapped it.so now i have a piece of 12mm plastic cinduit... its 60cm ling, the legal length of a large snapper, with some elect tape at the 38cm mark for small snapper...i use different colour tapes, for whiting, salmon,etc etc...i normally leave it in the bucket, but i have tied a bit of string around it once when i was wading the shallows of the beach for silvers... easy to use, lay it along the fish, and throw the fish back if U/S.

we use a similar thing in the boat, cept its a full tube, with just a scollop out of the end... slide the whiting in until it hits the cap on the bottom, and if his tail is hanging over the edge, hes legal.

same pro bloke had this one come up in dec last year... took 17 snapper of of him, then came up for a look...this is a great pic, shark estated at 17 ft, and very agro.
