I can tighten the drag but yeh when theres something on it the reel spins backwards. So big fish..hands away until I can grab it lol.Thanks guys, hopefully ill be able to show some big bastard on here eventually!

500/A1/7...I think lol, its a bit faded. What does the clutch do!!I dont want to throw it out, its as smooth as my newest reel after I bathed it in WD40 and its by far the strongest reel I have.I think I will have to invest in another rod to suit, the old one could have a 6ft guy hanging of it and barely flex lol.Am I okay to leave 30pd line on it?

Haha yeh the EYE, thats the name. My less techincal version of Hoop thingy worked thou right? lol.The rods old as hell, and bloody stiff as shit. I dont use it to often because of the Rod so maybe its time to move the Alvey to a new rod. Does a alvey need a certain type of Rod or will anything do? Thanks for the help guys

So I was out today on the Outer Harbour break water..with every other man and his freaking dog. I had broke out the old Alvey since a mate was coming along who unexplainably doesnt have any fishing gear!!!!Ive used the rod (possibly 40+years old) and the reel (same age) several times before and never had a problem. Today I managed to break the first hoop thing that holds the line in place on the farkin walk out. Now I dont know if this was the reason that I couldnt cast without 5 metres of tangles appearing as well. After 4 casts and untangles I would get my line in the water.So the question i
