  1. if you're really keen, pre-berley the area with a sweet berley (honey or molasses will do the trick) and use some doughy white bread for bait- thats my ticket to mega carp.Alternatively, the back of the par 3 golf course (on the low side of the wier) is a productive spot....just watch out for the weir opening and washing your gear away!

  2. My favourite is big thick bloody salmon fillets cut triangularly, a live salmon trout, or a big fresh squid head. Thats in a perfect world though...i normally use pillies as stand by bait, those Sauries sound like they are worth a go for sure

  3. Length isn't everything when it comes to surf rods...it depends a bit on if you are after a salmon rod or a genuine mulloway/shark unit. I use a 10 foot custom for surf mulloway, that is built to throw heavy star sinkers and big sloppy baits with comfort. A sturdy 10 footer can really put the brakes on a big fish. If you're just after salmon i'd consider 11 or 12 feet, but i reckon 14 feet is a bit cumbersome and most of them lack a bit of grunt and versatility.

  4. remember the outbreak of a noxious weed that caused a total ban on westlakes a few years back?when kt reopened i caught a few shitties that were real horses. im talking 40 cm. i caught a thumping squid, a few legal kgs and heaps of big bream at trimmer. im sure others did heaps well, thdre must have been some massive jewies around

  5. I have been known to "accidentally" kick over buckets of undersized fish. These nobs spoil it for everyone.I reckon the fisheries people should be reported for feeding the fish to a pelican- there job is to preserve fish stocks.

  6. reddies are cagey bastards- but also hard fighting, and bloody tasty when you crumb the fillets of a fresh 600gram specimen. Generally speaking, dusk is prime time, especially balmy evenings when there is high insect activity and the reddies main food source (yabbies) are prolific. On boiling hot days they tend to almost "school" in inactive clumps.Early- mid morning is quite a good time to try also. Any spinner or soft plastic that mimics a food source (yabbies, worms, galaxis minnows) are deadly when presented correctly. Old fashion blade spinners in red and green are dynamite as it nutures the reddies cannabalistic urge. I also enjoy dangling a single fat tiger worm unweighted beneath a quill float on 1kg line. Watching the float duck and bob next to lily pads whilst sucking ao a corn cobbed pipe is quite relaxing. Goodluck bro.

  7. Most die hard fisho's know that a slab of fresh Australian Salmon is almost like a hand grenade when targeting monster Jew in the suds. Another potent offering- the whole fish suspended beneath a balloon- is equally as popular amongst serious stalkers of bronzed, finned nomads.Me? I prefer to bleed the fish, wash it in the surf, then stuff the whole thing with tomato and garlic. Wrapped in alfoil and baked amidst the burning embers of your campfire it makes a hearty treat. Heard of this one? Ok, try taking your fresh slab of salmon, skun and cubed, then rolled in flour and fried in very hot olive oil. Simple yet effective- just dont batter them and serve them with a side of fries! Peace Homies.

  8. Hi team, i just enjoyed some Nannygai, which i skun, cubed, rolled in flour and fried in very hot olive oil. The cutlets were a pretty tasty entree which i followed up with cleaned squid tubes, stuffed with mince, onion and pearl rice. Wrap the whole thing in up in alfoil and bake it in the oven. It goes down a treat with a crisp sav- blanc or a xxxx gold tinnie! Peace out homies.
