Wasn't that long ago they wanted to flood teh lower lakes with salt water.Great to see the area returnin gto it's former glory ! A lot of happy people that's for sure.Wonder how long till we can return to the spit with goldern slugs...

As mentioned before.. The cheaper ones I have picked up warped my vision a bit. Made it impossible for me to read greens when putting playing golf and never felt comfortable driving with them in case I didn't pick something up.There are some bargains out there though. I have found a big difference in what they cut out as well being Polaroids, noticeably when in streams trying to pick out trout. Some are great, others are useless even when labelled Polaroids!

They erally know how to do it other states, but then again look athe amount of boats and water they have compared to us ! Now onder it's bigger

One of the questions that was raised before...Spotters have a great reputation for being very scratch resistant. I remember Paul Worselington (spelling??) of Ifish fame grabbing his car keys and taking to a pair to demonstrate. That's my main reason for replacing sunnies in that they are scratched beyond belief by the time I get a new pair. For me... if I can get a pair that would outlast another due to it's scratch resistance then it's value for money instead of going through a pair a year.So the question is... was it a particular pair or are they all very scratch resistant??

Forgot the main bit !! they were pumping them out for $20 !!!Just checked the work fishing thread that was talking about them...http://www.oo.com.au/Fish-Polarised-Sunglasses_C899.cfm$29.95 !!! delivery is $7.95 making them $37.90..I by now means think they would be upto the standard of some of the better brands that invest big bucks in research, but for an entry level pair... not too bad !I've been burnt before with buying cheaper sunnies.. warped vision being one of the probelms. I buy a pair to wear all the time so don't mind paying the extra money for something I can drive in safeftly. They were selling the FISH brand wire frame polaroids that retail for $129 on some clearance site yesterday.. only lasted 24 hours though.

I know starlo keeps going on about his maui jims ??? think it was that anyway..They were selling the FISH brand wire frame polaroids that retail for $129 on some clearance site yesterday.. only lasted 24 hours though. Should have got some for myself as now you have me looking at $200 + sunnies ! Summit Spotters have my eye at the moment ! Problem is finding someone that stocks them in the colours you want

Come to expect it when it's time to pull a few up on their behaviour around here mate... all part of the job Don't worry, I sit back and read what i have written before I hit submit and think .... really.. i sound like my mother !! I wish some would read what they have written before they hit submit :S I'm sure Weedie has taken from this thread what he wanted... good constructive feedback. That's why most jump into a thread.. to give feedback, advice, suggestions... call it what you want. It's in our nature to dissagree with others, and to help! Something we just have to accept on forums everywhere. Personally to me that's what makes forums such a great place to seek advice !

Keep going people.... and we all know what's going to happen! This thread can be very helpful to those asking questions about cheaper gear if it’s kept as that. There has been a difference of opinions from both sides - for and against, some good points made from both also. Go with your gut feeling and what's in your hip pocket. Make a mistake and don't make it twice. We are all here to learn from others, that’s why we ask question…..As for the behaviour of the thread... disappointing! A little too heated for most and now we're in a game of he said she said and trying to defend others actions. From here on in please stick to the topic, being the particular rod and reel mentioned.

Hahaha.... too true !! Had the missus comment on the glitter under the nose a couple of times fishing with them. Just for your info SS, they are scented as well. I think they call it a salt but thankfully it's nothing like the liquid.Very durable as well. Have had some huge sessions on the ST's with them and they just get a bit scuffed up. You will rip one everyonce and a while but last a lot longer than the GULP
-
I don't know of a single fishing store that hasn't got them mate. Normally not the huge display that the gulps get but normally right next to them. ALl around the same price to !! Quite often I pick them up in the bargain bins from certain places for $5 as well. The thing I like about these is that I can have a huge selection in the lure box without worrying about mixing colours, drying out etc... When fishing freshwater or walking the banks of the onk etc with waders on I just have one lure box with lures be it HBs or SPs I want to use, the jig heads and clips... all too convenient!!Check out some of Adam "Maddog" Royters early video clips and he goes through these and there best uses. Some good info out there for those that haven't got into SP fishing much

Hope he gets a big one mate, I'm all for the photo/release, good on you for at least chuckenback :PYeah, will never understand the trophy aspect of it though and like others have stated, if you can't handle it cut the line not the barb. I have never had to harm them to release them.Do I think you should cut it off..... no, but that's my moral standing. I don't harm anything or anyone unleass I'm put in a position where I have no choice but to.Someone made a good point on here... even if they swim away strong after removal of the barb, infection can cause death anyway let alone not being able to defencd themselves.

It does seem that you are within your rights legally but morally ??Bet you look over your shoulder before you do it again !Would you raise your children to perform these same actions and what would you say when they ask you why you do it ?

Good thinking ! Surprised the "question" wasn't asked of them earlier instead of all this back - forth

Roger thaat's good new for a fighting friends !!Do you have a reference so the Site and hopefully State can be further educated. If it's made puclic notice instead of tucked away in some by-law style publication hopefully people will sit up and take notice instead of having the "don't care" attitude.I know one thing, if it's Federal Law I won't be afraid to call the cops instead of fisheries next time I see it happen. There is a Federal law against mutilating sharks and rays and releasing them alive. It was introduced a couple of years ago to prevent people (Especially Indonesians)From collecting shark fins and releasing the fish alive to die slowly. The same applies to all fish species and SA is NOT exempt.Don,t chop off fishes tails etc. then let them go.

I remember about 10 years ago I was on patrol in the rubber duck during a carnival out from Glenelg and was asked to move an eagle ray on before an event... man those things can move !! We chased it back and forwards in crystal clear water only about 6ft deep and they surprised the hell out of me how quickly they can take off, change direction etc...
-
You're always good for it mate. Good stuff.Interesting that it's only SA.. behing the 8ball again

My sister in law works for the RSPCA so i might ask her opinion on this one. I'm sure there would be something out there to outlaw possible torture of marine species. I do remember there being a few dolphins that have been the target of archers (probably crossbows) they would throw the book at them if ever caught, Is trophy hunting not a similar activity ??I'm all for catching them, everyone knows they are fun during a hot summer night while waiting for the toothy friend to bite but seriously change your ways people.... The kiddies are going to start playing tag by taking the little finger as proof from now on.. your it
-
I have no problem in catching them, in fact my Dad stirs me up beacuse I'm out with a squid head as soon as I see them near the crab pots. Why gaff them ?? Surely you can see that this is harming them and some WILL see this as cruelty to animals. if you are only doing this to get your rig back, perhap review your procedures in landing them. If you can't do it without hurting them, why not just cut off ?I can see teh head lines now..."Local fisherman accused of cruelty to animals by catching, stabbing and mutilating marine species"This of course is the old 60 minutes test but you can see how some will view it.

My thoughts exactly !! Why cut it off just so you can get your rig back ?? Why not just cut what you want from your rig and leave the hook in to biodegrade ??? Or even better just cut it off and let it swim free without having to touch it at all.Anyone with half a brain can handle a ray with a barb... They aren't dangerous if you take your time.
-
Acceptable.... Hell no !Illegal... cruelty to animals IS illegal.Keeping the fish/ray is not however. It can be taken home and used for bait, food, pet food etc... but to just take a trophy ! appauling that thi still happens. Yes it will probably die, perhaps it does survive a bit like people who used to steal got there hands cut off...I think you can see where I'm going !

I remember back when I was at Recruits, we took the rifles into the showers after being out in the rain and mud a for a few days.A good scrub and a light oil and they were back to firing like new.

You have a good point there.. The currnet pair I have aren't fantasitc in the creeks due to the over hanging trees etc but great in full sunlight out in the boat. Would be nice to have a pair specifically for each purpose !I know plenty of golfing buddies that have "golf polaroids", helps them see the white ball against white clouds on overcast days
