  1. Mate you don't know how glad I am to here this !! :silly: It's all booked and the boys can't wait let alone me. I'm really hoping to get my first snapper on SP but will be happy with anything I get. Got to be better than the last few charters I have been on anyway.Nothing worse than spending a couple of hundred and coming away with dohnuts  I will be certain to let him know and hopefully he throws some discount your way for the good work talking him up. Obviously the results speak volumes  Can't wait !! :woohoo:

  2. Go to the butchers and see what they are using. I’ve got a mate that works at an abattoirs and they use victorinox blades. When they get too small for them, they are perfect for fish filleting !! You can pick them up for bugger all if anything !!

Mate give Trevor at Double Header Fishing Charters at Port Broughton a call on this number and ask if he can accommodate 12. I know he can definately do 10.Heres Trev's number 04 2884 0952There is way more snapper up the top end of Spencer's Gulf at that time of year, so for value for money I would be driving to Port Broughton. I would organise a room the night before at the Broughton Hotel and then get up and get ready for some of the best fishing you are likely to see.His charters are freaking awesome.Ive done a couple now and one word WOW.Big Reds and plenty of them :cheer: :cheer:

urhooked thanks for the suggestion ;) As things turned out he told me te will only do 8 people but the more I thought about it the more I realised 8 was going to be perfect as I have a few people that aren't mad keen fishos (why I still speak to them I have no idea  :side: )I spoke to Trevor about accomodation over there and he gave me the number of a lady down that way that manages some properties and I landed a 4 bedroom 2 story shack on the beach front for $50 a night  She told me that everything was taken but when I told her I normally get shacks for $50-60 a night down Moonta- Pt Hughes way she mentioned this little puppy... it only took a split second or me to say lock it in eddy !!So it looks like it's now a whole weekend away with the mates and the ones that don't want to fish can come over for a piss up Saturday night. Thanks for planting the seed champ as it has snowballed into what's going to be one hell of a weekend !!Now all I have to do is work out where else I can go fishing at Pt Broughton :P
  4. Alright guys and gals, I need some help as hopefully you have been on more chaters than me which isn't hard !! can count them on 1 hand and also the amount of fish caught on said charters on 1 hand  Looking at a charter in early feb for my bucks do for about 12 people but trying not to spend too much money as obviously it's a big ask for some especially those that aren't keen fisher folk ( can you beleive I would associate with them ) :ohmy:I have called a couple based at glenelg but they are $250 bit much for most.Thinking Cape Jervis as it's with in an hour for most, any idea of the general price down that way ?? I have been put onto one mob from friends of an operator but haven't called as yet. Was also told not to expect any discount. ( good friend ??? )If anyone can make any recomomendations or just give any info it could all help me to make a decision. Thanks in advance... B) Jags

Rangfish i spend every weekend out in the boat and never seen a bronzie come up to the boat. Whites a different story.Bronzies are way to shy to do that.Caught plenty of bronzies from 1kg to 235kg and never seen one of them. ;)

Bronzies are to shy to do do what ??? be curious and have a look at something... I have been surfing when they have swam through a pack of surfers, had one sighted under the same wave as which I was surfing late afternoon, seen them when racing the rubber ducks with surflifesaving, why even just last week my old surfing teacher had one pop up right next to her whilst sitting waiting for a wave at seaford. My opinion is that if you have a bait in the water for them you probably wouldn't see them as they would be interested in the food being presented to them not curious about what is happening about them .Remember, all these creatures are curious by nature being opportunistic feeders, they will check things out in their own way.

In metro waters people should come first,I reckon the same whites roll up every year at the same time.If you take em out, It'll be ages before others take their place, Its probably the same shark thats taken those two people out.

Here's a new thought.... from the same left feild as many supporters taking their thoughts from... Get rid of the snapper in the gulf and you get rid of the noahs ??? Huh... simple ins't it ?
ok.... im on it.... i will do MORE fishing until ive caught ever last one of them.
It's logical though isn't it ??? :side: :silly: Get rid of the food source and they won't bother us... But hang on there's that thing called the natural balance that humans love to mess with so much. Ged rid of the snapper which will get rid of the noahs.. but hang on, then the blueys and squid will go on the attack with their numbers so high, and we all know they like shallow water.. wer'e doomed  :silly: On a serious note...The human race really needs to stop trying to play god, it never ends well for other species other than our own :( I think from memory the extinct species on earth now is well in the thousands. I personally would like my son to experience things that I have. ;)

  8. Ranger good read !!Some very intersting points in there which seem to highlight the curiosity factor... after all they don't have hands and fingers do they  chrisjc wrote:

i still have a vhs tape with fotage of one of the bigger females with her tail and dorsal fin out of the water next too some tool in a zodiac, the gap between the fins was bigger than the whole zodiac, and this guy had his kids with him! one flick of that girls tail and they would all be cactus.let em live we have killed more of them than they ever will of us.

Yeah... might as well be a 12ft tinny let alone an inflatable boat. People are prepared to get them selves into that situation and when all turns ugly... it wasn't their fault !
  9. From what I have seen the larger majority of people are in agreeance that if you enter the GW's territory you are taking the risk and why should they be punished for just being a GW.There also needs to be a clearly defined line here between sharks in general and Great Whites. Is there any way we can throw voting buttons into this thread ??I would love to see voting buttons that reflect the following;- Enter at own risk understanding possible results- Nets should be in place instead of current methods of alert- Kill all GW's that enter a set vacinity in our gulf watersI'm sure results would paint some sort of a picture. On a seperate note...If people are so worried about taking their family out into the middle of the gulf chasing snapper in a 12ft tinny ( crazy !! ) why do you not invest some money ino a shark deterent ?? Best of both worlds then and the only things that gets hurt is your wallet for making that decision. Not sure how much a sharksheild is http://www.sharkshield.com/Content/Home/ but theyr'e NATO stockcodified so I can find out when I get back to work. If theyr'e good enough for military then theyr'e good enough for my family if I was that was inclined.

  10. I would be careful quoting they "will" strike if blood is in the water. More like, they would be likely to strike, or they could strike. I have surfed down victor way for over 15 years now and have managed to nick myself on boards, fins, reefs, etc... and they are very likely to be in the near vacinity when my blood has been in the water. Still have ten toes and two legs.Dogs...You can teach a dog, train a dog most even raise a child with a dog. If it still bites a child then it probably deserves to be put down as it can not be trusted any further. Sharks in gerneral have acheived a level of trust obviously or they would be behind fences at our beaches like dogs are behind yards. For my money, I don't trust any dogs with my toddler, even considered giving the cat away incase he swiped him as a baby but where do you stop ??There's a natural equilibium on the ocean and if you get rid of the metro resident GW's almost guarantee you will find younger, more aggressive GWs will move in and possibly cause more hype if they move in closer to our beaches. When was the last time a GW was seen in waist deep water on our metro beached which is where most families congregate ? I know we lost a young lad back in '05' from Glenelg but that was in 15-20ft of water wasn't it ?? Where's the risk for our families there ??Just more food for thought..

I went on one of these GW charters earlier this year and i was surprised by how little blood and offal they used. Perhaps we were lucky and the sharks come around quite easy so there wasnt much of a need to burley much but i think they only used a couple of small buckets of offal. As for killing the sharks to be frank that is a stupid idea. People know the risks of swimming in the ocean and if you cannot accept these risks then i suggest you dont swim in the ocean and buy a ticket for your local swimming pool. Personally i have always swam in the ocean and have told my family in no uncertain terms that i wouldnt want any shark that injured or killed me killed in return. I think more people will drown at beaches this year ten will be killed by sharks in the next 10 years.

They are amazing creatures EddieV that can smell mere drops of blood from KM's away. If you look at the stats you can guarantee that more people will die from drowning that from GW attacks over a ten year period. ;)
  12. With summer approaching, we need to know the local beaches are safe for our families!Do we have a duty to protect the native wildlife or a duty to protect our families? Where does the greater duty lie? What is more important? What effect would a shark attack have on the community? What effect would the slaughter of a protect species create? Are metro beaches really the sharks territory? Why can't shark nets or other devices be employed? Are current methods effective? Is it all about safety, conservation or money? Are fishermen and tourist boats responsible for the sharks getting used to people and losing their fear? Is a lack of food driving the sharks to range further?Ranger you have made some very good points..As I am now a father I realise what it is like to want to protect your family. I will be taking my family into the water this year as I feel the threat is not that great and I surf as much as I can and only last week a mate had a small bronzie pop up next to him on a popular metro beach while surfing. Did it attack.. no of course not. If I honestly thought the risk was that great I would be purchasing shark repellants as what else legally can I do ?I invite Rodney fox to have his two cents on the subject but we all know what he would say as he's leading the push for protection even after near death due to an attack.Fear can do a lot to people but it's education that breaks down the barriers. Look into it people.

Now I know this is going to sound one sided from my point of view.Great whites should be taken out when they enter the metro areas as some come in during summer and have on regular pattern. The point I’m trying to make here is when a family group goes out lets say a 12 foot tinnie and a 5m pointer comes along and capsizes the boat and chews on the 2 adults and one child. It’s going to happen soon ,possibly this summer. Now your reaction to taking out the shark is shock horror how can you even think about doing something like that to a shark. It’s not the sharks fault.True.It’s their domain and we trespass into it.Sure we do and hundreds of thousands of people do every year. Now what are your thoughts when it was your family or individual that got taken that day?. It all could have been avoided by taking that shark out the first time it got spotted in our metro waters. One answer would be>stay away from the water. As that won’t happen this summer with the public.Should we be thinking about protecting the humans or the white pointer as it’s an aggressive shark.Am I being totally unreasonable here in my way of thinking or making a true and honest assumption of the situation.Remember….. the point here is humans come first before a white pointer.Your thoughts.

Here we go again !!! Let me put it to you this way...Every time you enter into something you do a risk assessment (even if you don't think you do) If you don't know the area you accept all risk.By comparison... should all pedestrians be removed from walking across roads " in case" a car my hit them ?? Of course not, and we can make rules and regulations in this situation, yet things are still going to happen.Question ?..Should all stingrays be taken out in case another well-educated eco warrior is accidentally speared ??Yes... you have done a very good job of stirring the pot if that is what you are trying to achieve but I think some people around here will see a very dim view of this type of talk on this forum. My two cents !
  14. Howdy Guys,After some info on C sinkers and where I may be able to get some. I am led to believe they are adelaide made but with out going directly to the manufacturer, is there any one out there I can get a few from ??I have found them very affective at retreiving jig heads from snags but have run out ( only had 2 but saved me plenty of jig heads, leaders and time ! )Any info is greatly appreciated.Jags..
