  1. i been using mustads big reds for snapper and started using small gamma circles for whiting these days and i find they work well
  2. thanks for all the answers, i was just interested to see what sort of knots other people use, have to say i was suprised that so many people said the bimini twist but i will have to give it a go now i reckon :silly:
  3. yea ur right, i meant the dropper used within a paternoster to make the rig
  4. im running a shimano symetre 2500 for whiting and i just bought a Stella 5000 for snapper. can i just ask what sort of maintainance you guys give to your reels, no matter how basic as after shelling out 800 bucks for a stella i would like to still have it in 25 years.is it just a rinse in fresh water and maybe wipe the top couple of metres of line or do you tend to do less/more than that?cheers
  5. fair enuf, yea i would say dropper loop as well for the paternoster as well, i guess it depends on what fishing you mainly do, i noticed alot of people have said the binimi twist, i havent tried that, it looked complicated in the book, is that mainly for wind on leaders or what?
  6. i forgot about snelling hooks but that would be on there as well!
  7. hey everyone, i was just flipping through Geoff Wilsons knot book and practising some of the knots in it and was just wondering what knots you guys find you go to over and over again? Most of my fishing is your standard bait fishing for whiting and snapper as well as some bread and butter varieties and i think that my most used knots reflect this. i would have to list my 5 knots as follows:1). Locked half blood knot2). Uni Knot3). Double uni knot4). Albright knot5). Centuari Knoti haven't noticed too much difference between the double uni knot and the albright knot although i find the albright
  8. I just bought a Stella 5000 SW and spooled it with 30lb braid, im gunna be using it in 2 weeks when i go on a week long charter around KI. havent tested it yet but im expecting it to be able to handle most of whats on offer bar maybe some XOS Kingies and Sambos so i reckon go for the stella!!
  9. yea good advice, im not to bad at telling the difference between them and tommies its just that i have never targeted salmon or salmon trout so any that i have caught i put back coz i didnt know much about them ie bag or size limits and as you say its not worth getting pinged over but know i know so when i do catch them again i have all the knowledge
  10. ok cool cheers everyone, i just wasnt sure as when i was looking in the rec handbook and it didnt say anything about salmon trout sizes and bag limits etc so i thought i had better check exactly what they were. i read about them all the time in SA Angler so yea, good to confirm
  11. hello everybody, i just joined strikehook today and this will be my first post.I have read alot about people catching salmon trout and indeed have caught them myself but it is not clear to me the differece between them and salmon. some people i have asked have said that they are juvenile australian salmon where as others have said they are a different species and i was just hoping someone could maybe help clairfy this for me?? cheers
