  1. Hi, I've been after a 10-20kg fast tapered surf rod to go with my pflueger for a while I'd also prefer a lighter rod. I currently have a custom 8 wrap len butterworth alvey rod that I used to catch an 80kg+ smooth ray which essentially stopped it in its tracks but I wanted the option to fish two rods as I found when I was down there I had some smaller eagle rays going around and they stripped the bait from that rod a few times so I wanted another rod to fish with a smaller rig to have a chance at those eagle rays.I'm after the 10-20kg (although x-18kg will probably do, the reel has a drag of 1
  2. Yeah, theres only a few smells that are a no-no with me while fishing.insect repellent, deodorant, cologne and aftershave. Anything apart from that is fair game (assuming you showered before the trip of course!!)
  3. yeah I gotta agree with that, fish don't really care about the smell of smoke. I was fishing the other day with my rod right next to the fire (not enough to burn) and the smoke was going all throughout the line/reel. made no difference to the fish. I'm also a smoker and my friend isn't and I regularly tend to outfish him
  4. Best thing I can think of is to do the age old trick. Don't like the smell of something? put a stronger smell in there.Try resting your baits in straight fish oil in the freezer for a day (or longer if time permits) and let the oil really soak into the bait, They will probably still have a slight smell from the scent of the bags but the fish oil should cover over it mostly.Even if you find you can't get the bigger (and wiser) fish to bite on it cutting strips off and soaking it in more oil would work for most bait fish out there in a school. Tommies, mullet, shitties and garfish should all fal
  5. Is that for leader material? (abrasion resistance etc) I've got some 40lb black magic tough leader that I'm going to put onto the reel for a shock leader (thinking about 3-4 rod lengths atm) and I went for straight braid (used electrical tape for backing) to get more line on the reel incase anything larger does come I still have a semi-decent chance at it. I bought the pflueger s60Model Drag rating Gear ratio Line capacityS60 9kg 5.6-1 400m/15kg BraidThe rod I'm going to be using is a custom built rod for sharking that my dad had made for him when he used to do his trips ov
  6. Appreciate that but do they have a website? I actually live down in Whyalla
  7. Hi, I've just purchased one of these reels to target rays and spooled it up with 365 yards of 40lb power pro. Would this be able to handle small-medium bronze whaler sharks? (i suppose like 4-9 foot) also any suggestions on what type of rig i should be using (balloon, sinker etc) as I don't have a way of taking the bait out far (unless i drop it in at low tide and wait for the high tide but crabs might pose a problem on that front) and I'm not too keen on the swim out there
  8. Hi, I'm looking for a larger knife to be able to handle cutting rays and sharks. I have a bait knife currently that I've been using but found its not really suited too it (too difficult to cut through cartilage etc, it has serrations on the top of the knife so I can't hit the top of the knife to break through the cartilage) Not really looking for one for fine jobs such as filleting but more the heavier jobs. I'm a chef by trade so I have plenty of decent knives to fillet with, just the heavier niche I need to fill now.Anyone got any suggestions? I was having a look at the Kershaw Pro Grade Cim
