  1. When using a bait up style jig always scale the fish first before putting it on. Fish scales help fish blend into their environment. When they are scaled they are easier for the squid to see and find. Also when squiding keep another jag on a line in the top layers of water in close and visible while you cast and retrieve another line further out. Squids like to move about in packs and it it not unusual for a hooked squid being wound in to have its mate following behind then suddenly see your other jag closer in and grab hold of it. I catch more squid using this method off jetties.
  2. Nah nothing like that !!!The closet thing to it though was when I was squidding off the local jetty. My 2 piece 7' spin rod felt kinda funny in the blank like the reel seat was coming loose, so I checked it and nothing wrong. The next cast the rod separated it's 2 pieces and the tip went in the drink. I wound the jag in ultrafast in case I had a snag. Then my rod tip came back in from the depths. :icon_lol: PHEW ! :icon_e_smile:
  3. Cheers,I'll remember that tip for when they go off the bite. Here's another,When squidding keep a lure close in, because sometimes the squid are really aggressive and will follow a hooked squid all the way in as you retrieve it. I did this the other day and it was funny to watch as a squid came after a hooked squid pulled along the surface to fight over the jag and then it saw my other jag in close and nailed it instead.HTHRatchet
