  1. you can get a variety of fish from rapid bay jetty. tommies, snook, mullet, leather jackets, squid and if your lucky king fish. went there about a month ago and it was packed, but very quiet..only got 1 tommie which the cat thoroughly enjoyed, lol  dont think theres any crabs around, the bottom is mostly rock I think.. bit of a tip, use floats on your squid jags, I've lost so many jags to bloody snags there. think rangers right about the meat thing, small bits on a hook are acceptable for catching mullet or carp.. definately a no no for crabs and burley tho ;)

  2. i'd reccomend a shimano raider finesse bream rod and sienna/sedona combo, lost mine overboard but loved it sooo much im replacing it in a week or so  im currently using a starlo stix pro tournement mid spin with sedona 4000 reel, matter of fact i have two of these combos.. quite capable of pulling in large mullies and snapper, but the rod is a tad more expensive..

get a glue stick from a glue gun. hold a lighter next to it. dab some of the melted glue on the end of the blank, then slide the tip guide on. wipe away excess. donezo.

is the tip of the blank meant to slide "into" the guide tip? coz i couldn't get it to fit.. it almost looks like something is meant to be in the blank which the guide then slides over? If not, then the guide may be squashed slightly :(
  4. Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone here repairs rods, and lives/works in the northern suburbs? On one of my starlo stix pro mid spin's the last guide on the tip has popped off, it doesnt look like its snapped though. I still have the guide and would like to get it fixed asap, so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.. thanks. B)

after a while i ventured up further, about where the shed/office lookin thing is with some heavier gear to go for the snapper that are meant to be there, was using a black magic snapper rig with fresh squid, nothing, then tommy fillets, and finally pillies still nothing. if they were there they just werent interested. quote]hey mate, that is the correct spot for snapper.. crush up some pillies and burley up under the jetty, then cast into it - (under the jetty), rough weather seems to be better.. my cousin lives at wallaroo and quite often does all nighters there, he always gets at least one.. ;) and yes your mate is correct, generally the concrete part of the jetty is best for squid, the black marks on the concrete confirm this.. In the real shallow parts you can also get the odd KGW or YFW.. the wallaroo jetty can get real windy, so if its too bad the marina is always worth a try as its more sheltered, some mullies have been pulled from there too B)

It was likely the person you were thinking of...Optimaxworld stated (numerous times I might add), that he wasn't running a charter service, and that he was looking for 4 or 5 blokes to join him fishing on a regular basis. He made it very clear that he wasn't interested in taking a different group every month. He also made it clear that the rough price of $300 was to cover running and ongoing maintenance costs. In return you would likely have the opportunity to go fishing monthly, in an awesome boat, to awesome locations, catching monster fish with opti, who seems like a nice guy.It was clear that this touched a nerve with some people, as they couldn't see how this was any different to a charter operation (?). Of course then the legal arguments started with the usuals, with subtle threats of possible legal action that may unsue. Furthermore, the tone changed to "anyone accepting monies or requesting monies in return for a days fishing is doing so illegally".To be frank, seeking people to come fishing in your boat with the open expectations that costs will be shared is probably a normal experience for most people. I know my mates who want to come with me are happy to pay, as they realize it's expensive to run and mainatin a large boat. If I was expected to wear the entire cost of towing my boat to my preferred fishing location (200km) with my mates in my car, then supplying bait, tackle, food, fuel for the boat, plus all the other ongoing boating expenses... I would still be happy to have my mates come with me, but we would go fishing once every three months, instead of one or more times per month. Why - I simply couldn't afford it!A long ramble, but it simple terms, this is all opti has done, but has been singled out and persecuted for doing so. Some people need to get off their high horses and lighten up IMO.
couldnt agree more, personally I would have no issues sharing costs for a great days fishing! and to say it is "illegal" im sorry to say is just plain ridiculous and wouldnt hold up in court, its no different than a bunch of blokes hiring a mini bus, splitting costs for fuel etc and going on a road trip! The ocean is a large place and Im sure there are literally hundreads of undiscovered spots around the metro area that hold fish. I think John just saw it as a possible threat to his charter business and losing customers, which is fair enough but could of been handled better from what I understand.. I have had the pleasure of meeting him and found him to be a top bloke who knows the metro waters very well..Anyways, Opti I really admire your determination in getting those KGW's, thoroughly enjoyed reading your post and can't wait to read about future adventures! Welcome to Strikehook mate.. B) I agree the fishing etiquette in sa of some people is shocking, even land based.. the amount of times I have had people cast lines over mine is unbelievable.. Another thing that annoys me is kids on jetty's, I mean if you can keep them under control fine but if they are going to run around knocking peoples buckets and tackle over ffs keep them at home with the grandparents!

thats a weekend type of read for me.great photos though :) can someone please put me in the picture and point out what was controversial ???

I believe he advertised for a a couple of regular fishing partners to share the cost of fuel and bait and the such and it could cost roughtly $300 per trip if i recall correctly, John got his back up saying that he was virtually offering a charter service and that its illegal to accept money from people to take them out in your boat unless your a charter. As i see it he wasnt after people to do single trips but people who would be consistantly available mid week to do these trips and share costs. From my point of view if there is a law saying that sharing running costs is illegal and anyone has ever been out in someone elses boat and didnt break this law on every occasion then they should hang their head in shame.
I hope thats not the John Im thinking of??
  8. never fished there but went and had bit of a look a few months back.. saw quite a few mullet and small bream near the weir gates, in only a few feet of water! have also heard reports of mullies throughout the pat.. the mullies would be around more when the gates have just been opened I reckon.. I don't think I'd be eating anything caught there tho, would still be good for a bit of fun imo.. good luck and let us know how you went! ;)
