  • The boat ramp at Billy Lights point has had schools of some plump salmon swimming in the area, biting on all kinds of lures and baits. There have been some Samson fish caught well off shore on jigs and baits. Squid and Whiting are keeping local anglers well fed, with some big schools of good sized Tommies being seen around the local bays.

Finally a few nice days have given local anglers the opportunity to get out and get some fishing done.

 

Now for what was biting and where:

 

Elliston / Sheringa

The jetty has had reports of tommies, whiting, and mullet. Walkers rocks with ‘smallish’ salmon, however can be caught up to 3kg at times. Talia beach anglers have also reported smaller salmon. The salmon beach along Sheringa has had reports of 3kg salmon being caught.

 

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Quite a few good sized fish have been caught along the beaches on both bait and lures.

 

Farm Beach

Whiting and Salmon have been caught along the beach and by boaties.

 

Coffin Bay

Boaties fishing in the Frenchman and Greenly area caught King George Whiting in reasonable numbers, along with a few Nannygai.

 

Port Lincoln

Port Neill

From the jetty and breakwater anglers caught a few garfish, plenty of tommies and some big squid. Boaties are reporting King George Whiting in the northern grounds.

 

Arno Bay

Boaties are reporting good King George Whiting from many various grounds.

 

Cowell

King George Whiting have been caught from the jetty and by a few boat anglers. There are still reports of a few Blue Swimmer Crabs of reasonable sizes in the area.

 

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

13 Members braved the cold conditions at Farm Beach/Dutton West last Sunday 27/07/14 finding the fish was not that easy.

 

Overall winner of the day was John Peters.

 

Division winners:

 

Veterans:

1st Leon Paterson 1 species+1 fish for 55 points.

2nd Wayne Paterson 3 fish for 15 points.

 

Mens Division:

1st John Peters 1 species + 2 fish for 60 points.

2nd Heath Ellis 1 species + 1 fish for 55 points.

 

Ladies Division:

1st Donna Peters 1 species + 1 fish for 55 points.

2nd Heather Hampel 3 fish for 15 points.

 

Junior Division:

1st Luke Ellis with 3 fish for 15 points.

2nd Riley Peters with 2 fish for 10 points.

 

Heaviest fish for the day was a 420 gram flathead caught by Donna Peters. Fish caught included 60 salmon trout, 3 whiting, 1 flathead, 1 garfish, and 1 mullet. The next club outing will be in the Lincoln National Park on Sunday august 10th, being a ‘6 of a species event’, leaving the clubrooms at 8am sharp.
