Keen anglers Andrew and Nicholas Bates wanted to catch some decent snapper. With things quiet around Port Lincoln they made a quick trip up to Whyalla where they got onto quality reds up to 20 pounds.
Now for what was biting and where
Elliston
The Elliston jetty had Tommies, Garfish and Squid. Talia Beach and Locks Well had Salmon up to 4 kilo. Try the local beaches in Waterloo and Anxious Bay for King George Whiting.
Sheringa
The first beach has had catches of King George Whiting, Tommies, Mullet and Flathead, while the Salmon beaches have had Salmon around 3 kilo.
Almonta / Gunyah Beach
Salmon around 2 to 4 kg have been reasonably consistent. If the salmon are not hitting lures try using berley in the gutters and pilchards for bait.
Farm Beach
Whiting have slowed down over the last week, possibly due to less tide movement.
Port Lincoln
Whiting are still very quiet in local bays with better catches out between Cape Donnington and Taylor’s Landing. Squid are continuing to be a popular target for local anglers fishing from jetties and boat ramps. Best results are coming during dawn or dusk on many different sizes and colours of jigs.
Tumby Bay
Boaties have been bagging out on King George Whiting at the Group on the southern and northern end. Try Peak Bay for King George Whiting, Squid and garfish.
Cowell
Outside Franklin Harbour was consistent for squid and whiting while snapper are scarce. Yellowfin whiting have started moving out of the bay after some good catches during the winter months.
