Port Lincoln fishing report 05/06/2014

This week’s pictures are of Indigo (2 and a half) with her first unaided fish and of Davin Pedler plus friend with a couple of nice Sampson fish from a recent trip to Flinders Island.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston

Try the jetty for tommies, garfish and squid. A few flathead are being caught in waterloo bay, along with some smaller salmon. Locks Well anglers are reporting salmon, however are not indicating any size to these fish.

Sheringa

Tommies, whiting and mullet are being caught locally. Salmon of varying sizes have been caught over the past week.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Very few anglers have given reports from this area over the last week, but we have heard of the odd salmon from this stretch of the coast.

Farm Beach

Whiting can be caught in good numbers of a decent size from all depths of water. A few nannygai are being caught offshore

Coffin Bay

Anglers are still producing decent bags of King George Whiting from this area as well as a few tommies, trevally and squid.

Port Lincoln

Try the Thistle Island grounds for whiting and the odd bigger squid.Spalding cove & Taylors landing for whiting and squid, with best results during an incoming tide and with the use of berley. Local jettys for squid in good numbers during evenings and early mornings. Good quality jigs in smaller sizes are outperforming the cheaper jigs when the squid are fussy.

Tumby Bay

A few squid and King George Whiting have been reported by visiting anglers.

Port Neill

The town jetty has tommies, large squid, and nice garfish. Boaties had been successful fishing the northern grounds for whiting if prepared to move about. Snapper were coming from the inshore reefs, along with a few fish out wide. Reasonable size salmon are being caught from the town’s southern beaches.

Arno Bay

Squid and snook are in the bay. Be prepared to move about if targeting whiting.

Cowell

A few people are still getting some nice sized Blue Swimmer crabs as well as some nice squid.

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

Results of PLAC Open Outing held on Sunday 1st June.

Overall winner of the day's competition was John Peters with 170 points. Leon Paterson with 150 points won the veteran's section from Mick Kollep, whilst Heather Hampel won the ladies. Stuart Mesecke won the Juniors with 125 points from Riley Peters who fished hard to be a close runner up with 110 points.

Members were able to fish anywhere from Louth Bay to Point Drummond, though most stayed local to find their fish. Species caught included whiting, garfish, tommies, salmon trout, leather jackets, mullet, trevally and sweep.

Heaviest fish of the day was a salmon trout caught by John Peters, with John and Riley Peters taking out the mystery fish prizes with leather jackets. The next planned outing for the club is on Sunday the 15th June. This will be located at Gunya/Almonta, consisting of a heaviest bag competition. Leaving from Spot On Fishing Tackle and Outdoors at 8Am. Members & visitors are welcome.
