  • Tuna have been seen and caught at a number of spots including Low Rocks, Cabbage Patch, Neptune’s, behind Hopkins and Thistle Island and south east of Dangerous Reef. Despite terrible weather over the past week local jetty’s are still producing good catch rates of squid and tommies. Garfish can be caught with the tommies, however can be found deeper than usual with wind chopping up the surface. Smaller Yellowfin whiting are being sighted along the foreshore. A few whiting were reported from Proper Bay along with tommies, gar and squid. The main wharf has had tommies, salmon trout, slimy Macks and the odd Kingy.

Here is this week's fishing report. Remember, if you have any photo's of that prized catch, just sent them to portlincoln@spotonfishing.com.au with a brief comment.

Both photos this week are of yellowtail kingfish. In the past few months there has been an increase in sightings and numbers caught at various spots around the Peninsula. Places like Tumby Bay jetty and marina, the Lincoln Marina, Main Wharf and Proper Bay to name a few have had Kingies from undersize to one over 20kg that we heard of.

Seven year old Summer caught hers from a pontoon while staying in Lincoln Marina over Christmas. She is definitely hooked on fishing now! Bill Lee scored his in the Tumby Marina just last week.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

Anglers fishing the Elliston jetty and Waterloo bay are reporting some good garfish whilst the weather was calmer, and good catches of tommies and squid. A few salmon were reported around the Elliston area, however most results were coming from Sheringa with more consistent fish around 3 kilograms. Whiting and tommies were also reported coming from around Sheringa’s first beach.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Gunyah Beach had a few salmon but the beach is apparently very soft and churned up. Further up at Convention Beach salmon around 2 to 3kg were caught.

Farm Beach

King George Whiting are being reported by boaties fishing around Farm Beach, the Sandhills, Fence line and the Frenchman.

Coffin Bay

Tuna are still going strong from the Hummocks, Greenly, Rocky and Perforated Island in the 10 to 20kg size, however the weather has made it very difficult to fish these areas. Most anglers have been playing it safe, waiting for the weather to improve before venturing out. Be sure to know and double check conditions prior to leaving. Nannygai are being reported by boaties fishing Point Sir Isaac King George Whiting are being caught by both land based and boat anglers fishing throughout the channel, along with some Silver Trevally.

Port Lincoln

Tuna have been seen and caught at a number of spots including Low Rocks, Cabbage Patch, Neptune’s, behind Hopkins and Thistle Island and south east of Dangerous Reef. Despite terrible weather over the past week local jetty’s are still producing good catch rates of squid and tommies. Garfish can be caught with the tommies, however can be found deeper than usual with wind chopping up the surface. Smaller Yellowfin whiting are being sighted along the foreshore. Tumby Bay

Trevally and some Kingies were in the Marina. Whiting should improve out at the Group with the better tides.

Port Neill

Yellowfin whiting had been caught over the past couple of weeks by anglers fishing from the shoreline, with best results on prawn of worms. Squid and tommies were caught from the jetty, however most anglers are waiting for the wind to die down and more tidal movement.

Arno Bay

Snapper fishing out wide was good when the south easterlies allowed with 7 to 9kg fish reported. In closer to shore and whiting and squid were consistent. The beaches had yellowfin whiting and some ‘rat’ Kings off the jetty.

Cowell

Snapper were caught in deeper water, along with some decent chunky king george whiting. The jetty and Franklin Harbour has had good catch rates of blue swimmer crabs and tommies.
