  • Snook and Squid are continuing to be on the chew with many anglers fishing both from the shore and in boats reporting good catches. Best results have been found to be late afternoon and into the evening.

Salmon up to 1kg and big fat Tommies are hanging around Boston, Proper and Louth Bay chasing assorted baitfish schools of blue bait, pilchards, and anchovies. Both land based anglers fishing and boaties are having success using similar size lures to what these fish are feeding on. Metal slugs like the Spanyid Raider are proving to be very effective, with afternoons seeming to be the best time. Look for the birds working close to shore to find the fish.

Lots of undersize King George Whiting are being caught from within Proper Bay. Please make sure you check the size of your fish before keeping them.

A whisper of a few Blue Crabs around Boston and proper Bay are also being reported by boaties.

Please remember that the Snapper ban has started and does not end until Midday on the 15th of December. Any Snapper that have been accidentally caught must be returned to the water. If possible, use a net and remove the hooks from the fish without lifting it out of the water to increase the survival rate.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

Land based anglers scored King George Whiting and Flathead on 2 ½ inch Zman soft plastics. Offshore, the Whiting averaged over 40cm with one measuring a massive 59cm. It’s a good idea to release these big fish as they are the super breeders.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

No reports of fish being caught this week, but a few tourists have reported seeing schools of Salmon in the surf.

Farm Beach

Anglers fishing the shore found King George Whiting averaging between 27 to 33 cm so just make sure to check the size of your catch before it is kept. Boaties are reporting a few sand crabs have started to show up along with reasonable catches of Whiting.

Coffin Bay

Big Snook, Gar, Silver Trevally and Salmon Trout are being reported within coffin bay.

Land based anglers fishing the esplanade are catching King George Whiting of legal size, however, they are plenty of undersized fish amongst them. Tuna averaging 12kg were reported around Rocky and Greenly Islands with some Kingfish around 10kg at Greenly and the Hummocks. Tuna have also been caught offshore from Sceale Bay.

Port Lincoln

Snook and Squid are continuing to be on the chew with many anglers fishing both from the shore and in boats reporting good catches. Best results have been found to be late afternoon and into the evening.

Tumby Bay

Reports of Garfish up to 43cm and big Snook are coming in from anglers fishing around Tumby Island and the jetty. Squid and small Tommies from the jetty. King George Whiting and big Gar were caught around the sandhills. Squid and a few Whiting bit between Peak Bay and Point Bolingbroke.

Port Neill

The jetty has had reports of Garfish in the morning, and a few Snook on dusk biting on both baits and lures. Whiting were found north and south while a few Snapper were caught just before the closure. Salmon are being caught up to 2kg along the beaches south from the town.

Arno Bay

Whiting and some Squid bit well and Snapper were getting better before the Snapper ban.

Cowell

Trumpeters and Puffer fish are hassling anglers fishing for King George Whiting, so watch the amount of burley used as this can be a reason for the pest fish to hang around. A few small but legal crabs are about.
