Pictured is Joseph Perin with a nice handful of squid that he caught in local waters last weekend. Squid are a good option at the moment and make for excellent table fare and the leftovers make good baits for most other fish.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

Smaller schools of Salmon up to 2Kg have been reported in the area. King George Whiting can be caught from the beach at Sheringa, but check the size as lots are just under the legal minimum.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Recent reports are that there have been very few Salmon this week. There are only a few gutters and holes, so make sure that you look for those to increase your chances.

Farm Beach

Plenty of Whiting up to 38cm have been caught by boaties. A few Squid have been caught on baited jigs and Yamashita King George Whiting jigs during the day by boaties.

Coffin Bay

Out wide of Coffins there was the occasional Tuna and Samson fish have been caught around Rocky and Greenly Islands with Nannygai and Rugger Snapper in better numbers. Lucanus Jigs have been very effective for the Nannygai. Work them up and down slowly close to the bottom for the best chance to catch some tasty reef fish. Inside Coffin Bay there has been whiting, salmon trout, tommies and gar.

Port Lincoln

The main wharf has been going well for Tommies and Salmon trout.

Try Sleaford to Wanna for Australian Salmon from undersize through to 3 kilograms, with best results coming from metal lures such as Halco Twistys, or Mucho Lucir from 30-70 grams. Although Salmon were not always in schools, using a few crushed pilchards as burley will attract more fish to the area.

The North Shore continues to provide anglers with good catches of King George Whiting, Squid, and Garfish.

Anglers fishing local bays around Port Lincoln whether land based or in a boat, are producing good catches of Squid of all sizes, some good legal garfish, plenty of Tommies, and the odd flathead. King George Whiting have been a bit hit and miss, with very mixed reports, however most anglers had been able to find a feed. Yellowfin whiting big well with the recent high tides with fish caught between North Shields and the Town Jetty.

Tumby Bay

Try the town jetty for big Tommies, and some good sized Squid at night. There have also been a few King George Whiting caught during the day while the tide is high.

Port Neill

Some good King George Whiting and Garfish are being reported as well as some big Squid. Cockles and Gents are the pick of the baits here.

Arno Bay

Boaties are returning good results of Squid, and King George Whiting both north and south of Arno. Snapper being caught are mostly rugger’s with best results coming from out wide.

Cowell

There have been reports of excellent numbers of King George Whiting being caught around Cowell. Both boaties and shore anglers have been doing well with the average size being well above the legal minimum.
