  • Summer whiting have started to move into the bays with reports of fish in Spalding Cove, Proper Bay and the North Shore/Sandhill’s area. Schools of salmon were not as prevalent over the long weekend but some nice fish came from Millers and the Salmon Hole. Bronze whaler sharks were spotted by anglers fishing the south coast between Sleaford and Wanna, and some big trevally were caught as well which is unusual.

The north shore has had schools of pilchards during the afternoons with large amounts of birds working them, with tommies, salmon trout and trevally being the predominate species caught from these patches of fish. Lures returned the best results if the fish were close enough within casting range from shore.

Boaties fishing deeper water around Thistle Island had success on king george whiting, whilst anglers fishing in closer waters around proper bay also found a good feed of whiting.

3 year old Lenny caught his first whiting at Coffin Bay. Being undersize he loved putting it back and watching it swim away and said “We can catch him another day Dad”

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston

Good numbers of whiting were caught in Anxious Bay and a few nannygai outside of the bay. Locks Well had salmon up to 4kg. The jetty had Tommies and Squid.

Sheringa

Try the first beach for Tommies, King George Whiting and Mullet and the Salmon beach for smallish Salmon.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Big mullet, tommies and salmon are being caught from both beaches.

Farm Beach

Smaller king george whiting are being reported by anglers fishing around Point Longnose. Slightly bigger fish were found on grounds north of Farm Beach. There was a rumour of some small tuna off Sir Isaac’s but no confirmed catches. Nannygai and the odd gummy shark are in the area.

Coffin Bay

Salmon trout and tommies are being caught in good numbers from the main jetty, with better results occurring if a burley trail is used. Some king george whiting had also been caught, not big numbers but persistent anglers were able to find a feed. Boaties fishing around oyster leases had good results on king george whiting, silver trevally, salmon and plenty of tommies.

Tumby Bay

Boaties chasing king george whiting had success fishing grounds stretching from Tumby through to peak bay. Good reports of squid are also coming in from both land and boat anglers. The Group has been a bit of work to locate the whiting but when you do good catches are the result.

Port Neill

Try the jetty for Tommies, Garfish, Squid and some Snook. Boaties have been doing well on King George Whiting North and South of town weather permitting.

Arno Bay

Whiting are the main catch for boaties, with no snapper reports lately.

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

The 11th of October is the SAPC fisherman of the year dinner and the 12th is the AAA casting event both held in Adelaide.
