The Australian Salmon Fishing Championship
The Australian Salmon Fishing Championship finished at the end of august. The heaviest salmon for August and also the heaviest for the entire comp was a 5.485kg fish caught by Robert Hannford of Whyalla. Second was 5.280kg caught by Clint Kassebaum of Pt Lincoln. Third was 4.710kg caught by Dale Jackson of Victor Harbour. All were caught from Talia Beach.
Bob Hutchinson had been planning a trip to Bensback Papua New Guinea for some time to target the monster Barramundi it’s famous for. Plenty of Barra in the 60 to 80 cm range were caught but the metre plus specimens were elusive. Pictured is a good size Saratoga.

Snook are being spotted on local jetties from sunset well into the evening; however anglers are having trouble hooking them on lures with best luck on fresh baits. Whiting news was still quiet however some land based fishos scored some up to 40cm around Pt Lincoln. King George were also caught at Thistle Island, Taylors, and Carcass Rock. Big Yellowfin whiting were going well along the Foreshore but have slowed down. Squid are still reliable in the bays both for the boat and land based anglers.
Tumby Bay
Trevally and whiting were found at the Group. The whiting were hard work but the trevally we in large numbers. The jetty had plenty of squid.
