  • Rugger snapper are being caught in local bays and surrounding areas, with most fish being under 5 kilo.

Boaties chasing King George Whiting are reporting it is very ‘hit and miss’.

Garfish are being caught in local bays if the weather permits, and if anglers use burley to attract them into the area. Squid are in less numbers but still reliable throughout the bays and off the jetties. The main wharf had salmon trout, slimy macks, tommies and small schools of kingies have shown up here, the marina, Proper Bay and plenty of other spots between Lincoln and Tumby Bay. Tuna fishing has been good with fish ranging from a couple of kilos up to 20 kg. Best reports were from Low Rocks, the Cabbage Patch, south of Thistle and Williams Islands and even some close to Memory Cove.

Elliston / Sheringa

The Elliston jetty has had good catch rates of tommies and a few garfish, biting mostly on gents. Squid are also going well from the jetty, with best results using a quality jig accompanied by a pin jig or teaser line.

Boaties heading out offshore chasing Snapper and Nannygai are doing well if using burley to attract fish. As for Salmon in the area; best results are coming from Sheringa with some decent fish being caught. The bigger Salmon are tending to be lone odd fish, with most of the schools within casting range being smaller 2kg fish. Locks Well is still hard to access due to a near 10 foot drop from the base of the stairs. Some anglers were able to get down onto the beach by walking around to one side, however can be difficult getting back up, especially carrying fish.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

No reports this week.

Farm Beach

Boaties reported good catch rates of King George Whiting but check the size. The beaches from Greenly to Convention had some salmon up to 8 pounds plus big mullet and tommies.

Coffin Bay

Offshore the tuna are in good numbers at the Hummocks, Rocky, Greenly, Perforated and some patches are showing up between Reef Head and Sir Isaacs. Most tuna are around 7 to 18 kg but we have heard of a couple pushing 30kg. Surface skirts and diving minnows worked best. Snapper, nanny’s, gummies and a few kingies from rats to around 15kg were also caught. Land based anglers found salmon trout, tommies, flathead, gar and a few whiting from the rocks and jetty.

Tumby Bay

Try Second Creek for salmon, whiting, big gar and tommies. Whiting are in reasonable size and numbers at the Group but you may have to work for them.

Port Neill

Going well on big witing when weather permits on northern grounds. Try the jetty for squid, gar, tommies and snook and the breakwater for squid.

Arno Bay

Good size snapper as well as ruggers have been caught out wide but can be hard work. A few yellowfin whiting were off the beaches

Cowell

Crabs and whiting seem to be going ok from recent reports.
