  • Garfish are being caught throughout local bays, however keep an eye on their size as reports indicate size can vary from smaller ‘pencils’ through to bigger fat fish. Yellowfin whiting are being sighted by anglers near the North Shields jetty, along with some smaller squid during calmer conditions.

     

    Whiting, trevally and tommies came from Thistle Island and Taylors Landing grounds. Inside the bay whiting and gar were caught from Spalding Cove and Proper Bay.The south coast has seen schools of salmon along the ‘Sleaford to Wanna’ track, with fish being around 2-3kg. The main wharf has salmon trout, with some fish around 1kg.

2nd pic is Joyce Turner and Michael Kemp with a nice squid caught by Joyce off Tumby Island.

 

Now for what was biting and where

 

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Some big schools of salmon were sighted over the weekend but we have not heard any info on catches.

 

Farm Beach

Boaties are still reporting good numbers of whiting between Farm Beach and Frenchman’s. Squid have slowed down but there was gar, tommies and salmon trout caught.

 

Coffin Bay

Whiting are being caught from the jetty and rock ledges around the bay. Heaps of gar are also keeping anglers entertained. Anglers are reporting the odd squid in the evening from the town jetty.

 

Port Lincoln

Tumby Bay

The group is still on the quiet side of things. The ballast ground has been hit and miss on whiting but some good sized fish were found well south of Tumby Bay.

 

Port Neill

The jetty and breakwater are reliable on the usual species such as squid and tommies, with bites improving towards the evening. Yellowfin whiting and mullet are being caught around the town. Boaties are reporting the K.G whiting have gone quiet. Salmon around the 2kg mark are being caught south of Port Neill.

 

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

This Sunday, the 18th of May, the PLAC will be attending their planned 6 of a species competition at Bolingbroke. The outing is commencing from 8am leaving from Spot On Fishing Tackle & Outdoors. Members and visitors are welcome.
