5 year old Alexis is pictured with a couple of big squid caught off the Port Neill jetty recently.
Now for what was biting & where
Elliston
Good reports of decent Tommies from the jetty, with reasonable numbers of Garfish. Reports from Talia and Mount Camel Beach are of salmon mostly around 1 kg.
Locks Well
There are plenty of large Tommies, salmon trout and a few larger salmon around 3 kg.
Sheringa
Fishing on the first beach has been good with mixed bags of mullet, Tommies and salmon trout plus a few nice size whiting and flathead. When the swell has been down the cliffs have had sweep.
On the salmon beaches there are plenty of small salmon and a few bigger ones.
Almonta/Gunyah Beach
Still very few reports from these areas. One angler reported fishing Gunyah all day for 5 salmon around 2kg. Any info you’ve heard please let us know at Spot On.
Farm Beach
Whiting bit well around the Sticks, Point Longnose to the Sandhill’s, Gallipoli and the Frenchman. Offshore the snapper and nanny’s were ok.
Coffin Bay
There are plenty of Tommies and salmon trout around. Popular places to try from the shore are by the boat ramp and off the jetty or otherwise opposite the channel along the Ledge and at Seal Corner where there was a few whiting as well.
Port Lincoln
So far this winter season has been kind to whiting anglers with fish in local bays. As well as the whiting, squid numbers have also been good.
Along the south coast, a few schools of large salmon have been seen and caught at Millers Hole and beaches back to Wanna. Patient anglers are getting a few fish around 2 to 4kg amongst the smaller salmon trout.
Yellow fin whiting are still going well along the foreshore on the better tides.
If snapper, morwong and nannygai are the targets Thorny Passage and Williams Island is going well.
Tumby Bay
Very good catches of whiting anywhere from 33 to 50cm, red mullet and squid were found out at the Group. Second Creek had salmon trout and squid out from the entrance. Tumby jetty had squid and occasional whiting.
Port Neill
Boats are doing ok on squid, snook, whiting and Tommies and the jetty has plenty of squid plus the usual Tommies and a small number of snook. A few rugger snapper were around the inshore reefs.
Local beaches have been quiet for yellowfin whiting.
Arno Bay
Out wide the snapper are still going strong on soft plastics. Inshore is pretty good for whiting and squid.
Cowell
Good numbers of yellowfin whiting have been on the chew but will most likely go off the bite around the new moon in June with the first run of bloodworms.
Port Lincoln Anglers Club
This Sunday the 21st of June will be an open event 6 of a species comp 8am to 4pm.
