  • Offshore has seen the run of Bluefin Tuna continue. Most of the usual spots including South Neptune, the Cabbage Patch, Low Rocks, etc are all holding Tuna. Fish averaging 10 to 15Kgs and one weighing 43kg have been caught on a variety of lures, with Redhead minnows and small skirted lures with Purple in them being the most effective. Shimano Flatfall jigs continue to fool a variety of fish including Snapper, Nannygai and Sampson Fish. South Neptune and Wedge Island have also seen some Kingfish caught up to about 10Kg.

In the local bays, King George Whiting continue to be elusive, but are there for those willing to put in the time and effort. Blue Swimmer Crabs are in good numbers. Make sure you have a crab measure before heading out. Crab measures are available from the PIRSA office at 5 Adelaide Place Monday to Friday.

The local Jetties and Wharf are holding good numbers of Squid, Tommies, Salmon Trout and the odd Whiting and there are a few Slimy Mackerel around the Wharf.

There have been quite a few varieties of fish caught in the Marina. Anything from Tommies to small Kingfish have been hooked, but a few lures have been lost in amongst the pylons, so be prepared to lose some tackle if you fish near the structure.

Pictures are of Nic Bates pictured with a nice Spencer Gulf snapper caught on a recent fishing trip with his dad and uncle, and a group of happy anglers with a nice bag of Tuna(left to right - Robert Lombe, Danny Smalbil, Chad Smalbil, Michael Bailey and Darren Spencer)

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

We had a report of large schools of Salmon at Sheringa beach over the weekend. There are also some nice King George Whiting on First Beach. Around the rocky points there are a few Sweep and Trevally.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

We have only had a few reports of individual Salmon up to 2 Kg from the beach. Bait fishing with Pilchards has been the most effective method.

Farm Beach

There are still lots of King George Whiting, but most are still undersized.

Coffin Bay

King George Whiting have been good in Coffin Bay. Make sure that you check your sizes, but there are plenty of 30 – 35 cm specimens to be found. Silver Trevally have been keeping anglers busy with some up to 35cm to test light gear.

There have been a few Squid inside the bay as well, use quality jigs and fish around the weed for the best chance.

Snapper and Nannygai have been caught by boaties around Sir Isaacs in good numbers. Offshore, the Tuna are in good numbers and sizes. Redhead diving minnows like the Rapala XRap in sizes between 11 and 14 centimeters are working the best.

The Greenly anchorage also has a large school of Salmon up to 5Kg hanging around at the moment. Great fun on light gear for those boaties who can get out there.

Tumby Bay

Good bags of King George Whiting have been caught out at the Group along with plenty of Tommies and Salmon Trout.

Tumby jetty has seen some good Garfish and a few schools of Yellowfin Whiting on the warmer days.

There are plenty of fish in the Marina, small diving minnows and cockles have been the best performers to catch a variety of fish including trevally, salmon trout and tommies.

Port Neill

The jetty has seen some large Squid and plenty of Tommies and big Gars. When the wind slows down, boaties have been doing well on King George Whiting, but plenty of moves are required to find them.

Arno Bay

The Snapper fishing has been consistent when the whether allows the Charter Operators and other boaties to get out to the wrecks. King George Whiting have been good in closer, but reports of Blue Swimmer Crabs have begun to drop off.
