  • A few tuna around 5 to 7 kg have been caught between Low Rocks, Williams, and North Neptune Island. Squid continue to be a popular target with plenty of anglers getting a good feed. Small good quality jigs continue to be the best option, but at times, they will grab anything. Both Yellowfin and King George Whiting have been slow, but consistent. Prawns seem to be the best option at the moment. There are still Tommy Rough, Salmon Trout, Snook and Garfish around local Jetties keeping the keen anglers busy.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

Try the jetty for tommies, garfish, squid, a few sweep, and some leatherjackets. Try walkers rocks for some nice garfish. Locks Well has reports of some good sized salmon in the area being caught on pilchards and metal lures. It is a bit washed out after the last blow but still worth a go.Sheringa has the usual suspects in the area: tommies, mullet, and king george whiting. Try the salmon beach for salmon and maybe a few flathead.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Anglers fishing Gunya are reporting salmon trout in good numbers biting on pilchards, however schooling fish can be caught on lures, with a metal or chrome style being the most effective. Good size salmon were caught on the weekend – see the angler’s club results below.

Farm Beach

Whiting reports are still consistent around this area. Further offshore nannygai are biting with most around 30 to 40cm.

Coffin Bay

The jetty has tommies, mullet, salmon trout and the odd legal whiting. Coles Point / Greenly Beach area had plenty of salmon trout.

Tumby Bay

A few squid came from the jetty and the Group was good for whiting.

Port Neill

The jetty had tommies and squid while the boaties have been doing well with good catches of king george whiting. The beaches south of town have still been producing some nice salmon.

Arno Bay

There are still a few good sized snapper out wide, but there are good numbers of smaller ones in close.

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

14 members attended the outing to Gunyah / Almonta Beach on Sunday for the heaviest bag comp. access to the beaches was good following the rains with only one car bogged when they turned right onto Gunyah Beach were the sand was soft.
