Port Lincoln fishing report 21/05/2015

  • This week's Port Lincoln fishing report thanks to Spot On Fishing and Outdoors - Port Lincoln.

It seems that the cold weather has settled in and the only fish that anglers are willing to brave the weather for are Whiting. Luckily, the Whiting fishing has been good over the last few weeks for both boat and land based anglers.

Don’t put your boats away just yet, we should be seeing some calm weather in the next few weeks and some good tides as well, which makes for some good fishing if you rug up with a warm tea or coffee and a good jacket and beanie.

Elliston

Shore based anglers found a few whiting from Waterloo and Anxious Bay beaches. Large squid and tommies bit off the jetty after dark for those who braved the cold.

Sheringa

Whiting, Salmon, Mullet, Tommies and Flathead have all been reported with the recent calm conditions. The beaches have been fairly flat since the big swells last week, but the gutters and holes are forming again, so the fishing should improve this week.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

No report received this week, but we know a few anglers headed down there on the weekend to take advantage of the nice weather.

Farm Beach

Boaties are hooking a lot of small King George Whiting, so be sure to check their minimum size limit of 30cm. Reports of squid are still coming in from Farm Beach drops.

Coffin Bay

Mixed bags of Whiting, Tommies, Trevally, Snook and Salmon trout were caught inside Coffin Bay. Some anglers had to work hard for a feed, but those boaties that were willing to move around frequently got better catches.

Port Lincoln

Tommies are being caught in reasonable numbers throughout local bays and jetties. Yellowfin Whiting were caught along the foreshore when tides were good. Some nice Snook have been caught on small diving minnows at night from the jetties and boats.

Squid continue to be on the chew, especially as the sun is setting or rising.

King George Whiting have been hit or miss, with some anglers doing very well and others missing out. Most fish were caught by boaties fishing Boston Bay, the North Shore, Proper bay, Taylors, Carcase Rock, Thistle Island and Porter Bay. Some land based anglers found some decent patches of fish in Proper Bay and the North Shore. Be patient from the shore, as the fish seem to be moving around a lot most days. Squid caught in the bays were sometimes on the small side however those caught outside the bay were up to 1.5kg. There was some small tuna caught at Rocky Island recently.

Tumby Bay

Second Creek had salmon around a kilo plus a few King George Whiting. Small boats fishing close to shore around Tumby found some good numbers of Whiting, Mullet and a few squid.

Port Neill

Try the Jetty for Squid, Whiting, Snook and Garfish when the tides are at their peak.

Arno Bay

Some good Whiting fishing has been had by boaties and land based anglers. Cockles have been the pick of the baits.

Cowell

A few anglers have been through our shop and advised that there are King George Whiting around. There have been some good fish caught in amongst the smaller ones. It sounds like the Blue Swimmer Crabs are on their way out of here too now, with only one angler mentioning that he got a few last weekend.
