Port Lincoln fishing report 23/07/2015

bjorn2fish
  • The North Shore has had anglers chasing a variety of species over this past week, from both land and boat. King George Whiting has been a popular target, along with squid for boaties, with most anglers finding decent numbers.

Yellowfin Whiting had been a target for land based anglers with mixed reports. Some anglers found decent sized fish, however consistent numbers was not common.

A few anglers also targeted Garfish along this stretch of coast, with both land based and boaties doing well during calmer weather, or early in the morning.

Boaties venturing offshore have had success chasing Nannygai, and Blue Morwong from lumps based off of Port Lincoln and throughout the passage.

Reports are still coming through of Salmon being caught throughout the surf coast of the Lincoln National park. Some decent schools had been spotted by anglers with fish being close enough to shore to cast a metal lure at, giving anglers consistent action on 2 to 4kg fish.

The town jetty has some decent Squid and Tommies throughout early morning and late afternoon sessions.

Try the main Wharf for some smaller Salmon Trout, and decent sized Tommies.

Now for what was biting and where

Won by Troy Brock from Cadell S.A

Most of the fish were weighed in from Locks Well this fortnight with only couple weighing in over 4kg.

There were 88 fish weighed in over the last 2 weeks, so even the crazy weather didn't scare many off! The mystery weight was 1.926kg and Troy's Salmon caught from Locks Well weighed in at a very close 1.930kg!!!

We have had a total of 338 weigh-ins so far this year, with 9 over 4kg.

OUTING RESULTS – Wisemans (Tina) Beach Outing (05/7/2015):
The first event of the new season saw 16 members & 1 visitor attended the outing to (Tina Beach) Wisemans. The day started off very cold but ended up being a fine, sunny day with moderate offshore winds. The big swell, strong rip along the beach did make conditions a bit trying. There were several schools of Salmon around however these mostly stayed out of casting range. Most of the salmon caught were by those using lures.

Congratulations to Riley Peters who was overall winner on the day. For those who do not know Riley, he is an 11 year old boy & to watch him fishing is amazing...he has such an awareness of water safety & he ran up & down the beach all day, casting, retrieving & landing his fish unaided. When the fish were not biting he was changing tactics & back into the water!!!! Well done Riley!!!!!

A special mention to everyone as all the fish were presented clean & free of sand. Well done!!!!

Heaviest fish of the day was a 4.41 kg salmon caught by John Peters.

Overall Winner of the Day: Riley Peters
