  • Some good sized squid and King George Whiting are being caught in the local bays by boaties. Some visitors managed whiting around 35cm in front of the P.L Tourist Park. The Jetties and rocks are still a good bet to get a good feed of squid. Snook and Garfish have been reported all over when the wind has died off.

The passage and surrounding areas have been OK for Nannygai, Morwong and a few Snapper have started to appear. Sleaford to Wanna has seen some good schools of Salmon to 4Kg. Especially the Wanna end.

Metal lures and Bigger Soft Plastics have been effective. Billy Lights Point had salmon and squid. Schools of frogmouth pilchards have been in close to shore anywhere from the town foreshore, North Shields and Louth Bay with mostly tommies and a few salmon chasing them.

Pictured is 7 year old Tyler with his first morwong caught on his whiting rig at the group. (Nice fish Tyler). Also, here a not so young Matt Tape with a couple of whiting caught at farm beach with what his mate Shaun described as ‘the worst rod/reel combo around’.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

Tommies, Garfish and Squid from the jetty. Try Walkers, Locks Well or any of the beaches for salmon up to 2Kg. In Sheringa, there are plenty of Tommies, King George Whiting and Mullet.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

There are still good schools of big Salmon around, you need to search up and down the beaches to find them, but it is well worth the effort.

Farm Beach

Some good sized squid and King George Whiting have been caught at Farm Beach. The Frenchman grounds had 35 to 42cm whiting. Offshore from Sir Isaac’s there was some nannygai, morwong, gummy and school sharks. One lucky angler scored a 62cm whiting on his deep water rig.

Coffin Bay

Plenty of Silver Trevally and King George Whiting in amongst the Oyster leases. Try Dutton Jetty for squid. A couple of kingies have been landed on livies under balloons.

Port Lincoln

Tumby Bay

The Jetty and Marina have been good areas to get a few Trevally and Salmon Trout. The jetty has seen a few squid, but the best catches have been by boaties. Out at the group, Snook, Squid, King George Whiting and a few Rugger Snapper have been caught.

Port Neill

Tommies, Garfish, Squid and Snook from the Jetty. Large King George Whiting have been caught on the Northern grounds. 2Kg Salmon have been caught along the beaches south of town.

Arno Bay

Ruggers and some good sized Snapper have been caught out wide on soft plastics. Squid and Whiting have been caught in close to town. Blue Swimmer crabs have been reported in the area, but not in big numbers yet.

Cowell

The inside Harbour has seen some Trevally. Blue Swimmer Crabs have been caught in decent numbers over the past few weeks.

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

Halls Bay / Point Drummond 6 of a species competition on the 26th. Starting at 8am.
