  • This week's Port Lincoln fishing report thanks to Spot on Fishing and Outdoors - Port Lincoln.

The weather continues to hamper a lot of anglers efforts, hopefully there will be a bit less wind over the next few weeks and more anglers can get out and find some good fish for the Easter holidays.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

The Elliston jetty has had decent catches of good sized Tommies.

Salmon anglers are reporting most fish caught are averaging between 2-4 kilograms and caught from various locations along the coast.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

No schools had been reported sighted, however anglers were catching fish ranging from 1-3 kilograms on pilchards. The odd fish between 3-4 kilograms was reported.

Farm Beach

Decent plump King George Whiting out from Farm Beach and Gallipoli are being reported by both land based and boat anglers.

There are also a few squid about, so keep a jig hanging out the back of the boat while you are fishing for the Whiting.

Coffin Bay

Small King George Whiting throughout the bay as well as plenty of Salmon Trout. The Ledge and Seal Corner also had reports of King George Whiting. Most fish had to be measured and one angler reported 2 out of every 3 he caught was undersize and had to be returned to the water, but there are a few nice sized specimens for those who persist or are lucky.

Tuna have been good on deep diving lures and skirts being trolled. It seems that a lot of the fish are still hanging down deep in the water column, so you don’t necessarily need to see the schools busting up to put the lures in the water. Big Samson fish continue to be caught by those anglers willing (and fit enough) to jig on the lumps.

Port Lincoln

Blue Swimmer Crabs in Boston Bay, Proper Bay, and Porter Bay. Good sized Squid have been caught in Boston Bay, and from the town jetty and wharf. King George Whiting are being caught by boaties fishing Boston Bay, along with the odd ‘rugger’ Snapper.

Tuna have been hard to locate and even harder to hook this week. Best spots have been around Williams and Cabbage Patch. Deep diving lures in purple or redhead seem to be the most effective.

Some excellent captures of Kingfish and Samson fish have been reported around the islands and lumps as well. Shimano Butterfly jigs continue to prove effective on all sorts of reef species from Nannygai to Kingfish.

Tumby Bay

Blue Swimmer Crabs, and Squid are popular targets by land based and boat anglers. Boaties are reporting some decent catches of King George Whiting, however reports indicate the deeper anglers fished, the more ‘shittys’ they caught.

Port Neill

Squid and Tommies are being caught from the jetty and Breakwater. For King George Whiting, most anglers are reporting they have to work hard for a feed but are finding decent sized fish.

Yellowfin Whiting are along the beaches, however anglers have to be patient, waiting for them to feed.

Arno Bay

The Snapper continue to be tough to get, but the King George Whiting and other species in closer make up for the lack of Snapper.

Cowell

Blue Swimmer Crabs continue to be popular and the Snapper fishing is the same story as for Arno Bay.
