Now for what was biting and where
Elliston
Garfish and squid were found off the jetty and gar were also on the bite from Anxious Bay. Tuna were sighted only a few hundred meters behind the abalone farms. Closer to shore there was some good catches of snook and whiting.
Locks Well
Quite a few salmon have been caught averaging around 3kg.
Almonta / Gunyah Beach
No decent catches reported but those prepared to try numerous gutters scored the odd salmon, mostly on pillies.
Farm Beach
King George Whiting are being caught predominately by boaties, with a few land based anglers getting better results north of Farm Beach in such areas as Gallipoli Beach. Make sure to check the size of your fish as many undersized fish are being caught just under the legal 30cm.
Coffin Bay
Offshore boaties are landing decent Bluefin Tuna when the weather permits, ranging in size from 10 – 20 kilograms. Greenly and Rocky Island tend to be the go to spot for consistent fish, however fish have been schooling in a lot of other areas too.
Port Lincoln
Tuna were consistent at Low Rocks, Cabbage Patch and South Neptune Island with 10 to 12kg the average size but we heard of one weighing 37kg landed. Blue Swimmer Crabs continue to run, with most anglers returning results of excellent sized crabs. The main wharf has Tommies, Slimy Mackerel, Chow, and some Salmon Trout biting on both lures and baits during most times of the day and into the night. The town jetty is returning catches of smaller squid and Tommies. Yellowfin Whiting and the odd Flathead are being reported by anglers fishing the shoreline around Port Lincoln.
Port Neill
Salmon were on the chew off the beaches including Carrow Wells. Yellowfin whiting can be found on the beaches with good tides but puffer fish can be a nuisance. Try the jetty and breakwater for tommies, gar and squid. King George whiting were still best from northern grounds and a few rugger snapper came from the inshore reefs.
Arno Bay
Snapper are going well out wide ranging from a couple of kilos up to 10kg. Whiting, squid and garfish were good in closer and yellowfin off the beaches.
Cowell
Crabs and whiting are going ok in Franklin Harbour and snapper offshore.
