bjorn2fish
  • With mainly light to moderate winds over the long weekend should see a lot of fisherman heading out.

METRO

Snapper are showing up in the shipping channel now and again with the best area just pass the breakwater and 2-3 poles back from the farewell beacon. Whiting action has been hit and miss but the southern grounds have better consistency and bigger fish. Also try the reef out from footy park.

Squid are still in good numbers with Semaphore, Largs, West Beach, Brighton and Marino being the best areas. Crabs are still around but are out in deeper water around the 18-20 feet mark. Salmon trout are in abundance in the river and outer harbor Be aware the seals are sometimes pinching the fish). St Kilda has also been producing some good salmon trout and also some nice bream. West Lakes has mullet and nice size bream.

YORKE PENINSULA

Port Broughton has been turning it on with some nice catches of whiting just outside and between the 2 channels (Port Broughton and Fishermans Bay) There are also good size yellowfin whiting in the cross channel and plenty of snook and salmon trout just after the boat ramp on the straight stretch of the channel.

Wallaroo has squid in the bay, whiting near the magazines and nice mullet near Bird. Some nice snapper have been coming from Point Riley area as well.

Port Hughes has whiting near Coopers and also some big squid. Garfish have slowed but there is still a feed out at the light.

Snapper catches have improved also in the steamer and some nice ruggers are coming from the reefs around the western side of the light in less than 5 metres of water.

Balgowan has big whiting and nice snapper are coming from the ledges 40kms out west.

Port Victoria has nice whiting but are mainly biting well late afternoons. Plenty of squid are between the mainland and the island and big snook are coming from the line of the Songvaar and Deadmans pole. Outside the island is also productive late afternoons but in some areas it is plagued with small snapper. Port Vic reef has been productive with the whiting and the odd rugger.

Point Turton has whiting and squid. Some Tuna have shown back up south of Althorpes in the 10kg range taking deep divers and stick baits. Nannies and samson fish are also being caught out from Pondi and Wedge.

Browns Beach is now open and has a new bitumen road. Should be a great weekend to get down there for the salmon.

Edithburge has whiting near the island and some nice snapper out in the channel and near Marion reef. Plenty of squid off the jetty along with some garfish and tommies.

Wool bay has nice squid early mornings and late afternoons.

Stansbury has seen some nice whiting catches near the spit and out from the cemetery and squid are coming from inside the spit area. Jetty will be worth the while also.

Ardrossan has been slow. The odd snapper are coming from the south east end of the barge. Whiting is slow with better catches north of the town.

Price creek has some great salmon out near the mouth with some fish going 2kg along with some mullet and flathead.

SOUTH

Waitpinga is still doing well on the salmon and should be perfect there this weekend with offshore winds. Salt Creek has picked up with salmon and some nice bronzies. Inside the Coorong are plenty of mullet and salmon trout along with pesty seals wanting to steel the fish.

FRESHWATER

Renmark is still firing on the callop but other areas have slowed. Big carp are coming from Lake Bonney and Chambers creek.

Have a great long weekend from the Dorsal Fin Team :)
