Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 09/07/2015

  • Although the winds won't be kind this weekend there is still areas where you can shelter from the wind. Metro is one and the eastern side of the Yorkes is another in close.

METRO
Port river has been doing well on the salmon trout. Best areas are right of the Garden Island ramp just before the north arm. Also near the wrecks at the north arm is producing some nice salmon trout, bream and the odd mulloway. Mullet have been scarce in the river but eventually they will have to come in around the creeks that lead off the main rivers. Heavy burleying is the key. Whiting catches have been steady but this weekend head between the Black Pole and St Kilda breakwater in the sand patches. If your keen and want to battle the elements then head to Brighton Jetty where the mullet are still in full swing. Grange attracts some nice tommies during rough weather and there is also a good chance of an elephant shark.

YORKES PENINSULA
Went to Port Victoria last weekend and there are plenty of tommies, whiting and squid. You can shelter behing Wardang Island during these high wind periods for good result. Moorara did well during the slower tides which will be this weekend. Down south of Port Vic near Parsons and Hardwick they had huge whiting. Drifting was best but mat be too exposed this weekend. South westerlies work well at Point Turton and the best spot would be just west of the jetty off the point where there is a nice cork weed bed out front. Edithburgh has some nice salmon south of the town along with a sprinkle of mullet. Fishing off the shore line near the wind mills is a great spot late afternoons for some whiting. Stansbury may be a bit rough outside but inside the spit you can get some nice whiting just before the end of the spit.

FRESHWATER
Not too much to report other than some nice Callop north of mannum

Cheers from the DORSAL FIN TEAM
