Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 10/12/2015

bjorn2fish
  • This weekend is looking like a great time to get out. Nice weather (Not too hot) and very light winds. This will suit the boaties and the beach fisherman.

METRO
Crabs have been good around Semaphore to St Kilda. There is a lot of females with eggs but the males are still coming in. Garfish have been biting well in some areas and reluctant in others. The section Bank has been doing well along with the area between Semaphore and Largs Jetty. This weekend should be good off the jetty at night for garfish and crabs. A friend bagged in the shipping channel off the breakwater for crabs 2 weeks ago. Snook are still around in shallow but they are only taking deep divers (Duel Hardcore pilchard). There is also some nice snook off the jetties late afternoon and into the night off most jetties, Brighton and Grange being the best. Yellowfin Whiting are off most beaches but if fishing off the jetties try going under the jetty. Whiting info local has been thin but there is a few off Footy park ground and south of the Brighton Jetty. Yellowfin Whiting are doing very well on the Northern beaches.

YORKE PENINSULA
Wallaroo has whiting south and garfish and crabs, Port Broughton has garfish, Salmon trout and crabs, Pirie has yellowfin whiting on the outer channels, crabs just near Waroona and Garfish in the same area, Port Hughes has big garfish out at the light and whiting north of Moonta and at Kemps and the Rosa Garden along with snook out near the light, Port Victoria has whiting north of Beatrice, On the Port Vic reef and Messenges and snook in around Green Island and Rocky in around 3-3.5 metres of water, Port Rickaby still has some nice squid and whiting, Hardwick bay has whiting and garfish along with some nice tommies, Port Vincent has been slow but the tides improving should produce some nice yellowfin and bream, Black Point has crabs and a few garfish, Ardrossan south has garfish, squid and smaller salmon trout, Price has flathead, salmon trout and snook. Edithburgh has some nice tommies and whiting out near the island and around Coobowie. Some nice big whiting came from the grounds off Marion Bay last weekend even though the tides were slow. One of our customers got his first Mulloway off Berry Bay last weekend and he was rapted. Mulloway seem to be there and also Gleeson's Landing. Big whiting have been caught inside Pondi just west of the ramp.

SOUTH
Salt Creek has really been the Mulloway capital. Some nice fish have been caught and this weekend will be ideal. The Coorong has also been doing well with some larger fish being caught.

WEST COAST
I have had some reports from the West Coast and the Tuna are moving across. Fowlers have tuna with fish going from 8kg to 25kg, Scales Bay has some nice schools out wide in the 10kg range and Greenly off Rocky has some nice tuna along with some nice Kings. Give it a few more weeks yet and the Tuna season will be in full swing. Yalata has been surprisingly good considering the low seasonal wet in Northern Territory. Nice fish around the 50 pound mark are quite common.

FRESHWATER
Callop have been really firing and the fish are big. From Mannum right up to Renmark are doing very well. A few Cod have been hooked also but have been released. The Murray is certainly going to be OK for Christmas.

That's it for me but if you want more detailed information please call in and we will be more than happy to help.
