Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 15/07/2015

bjorn2fish
  • Well it definitely was a windy week but the winds will subside for the weekend. So get out there before the bloodworm run starts Sunday night. While not much to tell here it is.

METRO
Not much action last weekend but the stormy weather will definitely stir up the whiting. My best spots to try will be Norma wreck, Semaphore reef, West Beach grounds like the bag ground, Grange tyre reef, definitely the silt grounds (They do bite hard in this area after a blow), Black pole. Salmon trout are biting well in the Port river along the north arm by the wrecks and around from the Garden island boat ramp (Turn right after coming out and head up just before the inlet creek before the wrecks). Not many have been fishing for the mulloway but the few that are are getting fish but they are not huge but still good size around 6-8 kilo. Garfish have been caught near the cutting on the Outer Harbour side and the Breakwater will be well worth a try for snapper after the blow. There are still some blue crabs around the silt grounds and near the Black Pole. The jetties will be good for tommies and also mullet and the Port Nourlunga jetty should have salmon. With the dirty water try the beaches for mullet.

YORKE PENINSULA
Browns beach, Pondi, Royston Head, Dust Hole, Troughbridge and Berry Bay should all be good for salmon. Whiting where doing well at Hardwick Bay, Point Turton, Port Vic, Port Hughes and Port Broughton before the blow so should only get better. Squid were still being caught at Port Vic, Port Hughes, Stansbury, Edithburgh and Arsrossan. Try sheltered areas as the water may still be dirty. A trick in dirty water is to use dark coloured lures like black or something gold like the king george whiting Gancraft. The weather should also get the snapper going again at Ardrossan.

SOUTH
Not much action the last week and this calmer weekend could improve but you may have to contend with a lot of weed. Fish places like Waitpinga, Parsons, Deep Creek and Salt creek in the larger gutters to avoid a steady stream of weed.

FRESHWATER
Had some reports of some nice trout in the Broughton along with small cod. Be careful to not go onto private property unless you have permission. Also try rivers like the Light up stream as it does well after a steady rain. Manumn still has some callop but there has been improvement around Blanchetown off the banks pass the lock.

So get out before the bloodworm run shuts the fish locally, around Price, Port Broughton and Port Vic.
