  • With winds being light till Sunday there is still time on the weekend to get out and get some fish.

Metro

St Kilda through to Black Pole has some nice whiting at the moment. Some nice bag limits came from the area. The whiting must be moving in ready for the annual bloodworm run. Salmon trout is still quite good with the main area being around the North Arm, south of the St Kilda breakwater and near the cutting. Some trout have also been caught in the channel. Whiting improved around West Beach and Glenelg as well as west of the silt grounds. Mullet catches are still coming from Brighton with some large fish in amongst them. Mulloway while slow are getting the odd one near the wrecks at north arm and around the Pelican Point area. Those of you that have caught elephant shark before would know it is getting time to try off the grange jetty where a few have been caught in the past few years. Squid heads and pilchards seem to be the best baits using a running rig. West lakes still has some nice bream at night and early mornings. Squid are still being caught on most grounds with West Beach, Glenelg and Marino being the better areas.

YORKE PENINSULA

Good catches of whiting are coming from Port Hughes around Kemps and Coopers and there are good squid numbers in the same areas. Wallaroo has whiting south west near Bird island and around the Magazines ground. There is also a sprinkle of squid. Big mullet are still on the inside of Bird island along with the odd big snook. Port Broughton has been doing very well on the whiting and there is still some nice crabs in the area. Flathead have also been caught in the dead channel and there are still some nice salmon trout. Port Victoria has some nice whiting near Goose island and Green island and out west of the island at messengers and Port Victoria reef. Squid are also prolific between the island and Point Pearce. Point Turton was a bit slow last weekend with some fish being caught out from Soutter and down towards the Pines. Edithburgh still has nice whiting in the bay late afternoons and north of the island. Snapper catches are still quite good out in the channel and south of Marion reef. Stansbury has plenty of whiting just north of the spit and there are good catches of squid. Ardrossan has some nice big schools of snapper and on occasions they are feeding on the surface smashing small leather jackets. North of Ardrossan has whiting out from the mangroves. Price creek mouth is still getting some nice salmon and flathead. Browns Beach has plenty of salmon along with some nice ones caught of the rocks at Royston Head and in Pondi Bay. Reports of some nice Samsons being caught at Wedge and some south of Althopes out wide. There is still plenty of Nannies on most of the shoals and there has been some big snapper caught in the same area upto 8kg.
