Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 23/07/2015

bjorn2fish
  • The annual bloodworm run heightened on Sunday night with plenty of worms around for the picking. This weekend looks to be a fizzer but at least you can get into the shop and get ready for next weekend as we should see some nice weather coming our way by then.

METRO
Port River had a visitor on Saturday in the form of a Humped Back Whale (Maybe chasing the bloodworms). Fishing didn't slow down on Monday as you would expect. Good catches came in while the weather was still OK. Whiting numbers improved off West Beach and north of the black pole. Even after the blow squid numbers also improved. The group that hired the boat over the weekend got plenty of squid and some nice whiting. Snapper catches have been slow but next month should see an improvement. Port river is still holding some nice salmon trout mainly in the upper reaches but Sunday night seen them cruise further down towards St Kilda. Big bream are being caught in West Lakes along with some mullet and small mulloway. Best bait has been live bloodworms. Crabs are also being caught in good numbers between Silt grounds and up to Port Gawler which is good news.

YORKE PENINSULA
Whiting has improved over the last few weeks with Port Hughes, Port Victoria, Edithburgh, Port Broughton, Hardwick Bay and Stansbury being the best areas. There is still plenty of squid in most places on the Yorkes with Port Hughes, Port Vic, Point Turton, Edithburgh, Wool Bay and Ardrossan being the better spots. Some nice snapper are starting to come up the Spencer Gulf with some big fish coming from Arno Bay and out wide from Port Vic and Balgowan. Let's hope it improves as we get into the warmer months. Salmon catches have been exceptional at Browns Beach and Butlers with fish also at Berry Bay, dust Hole and south of Edithburgh. Price creek slowed a little but there is still some nice salmon at the mouth (Maybe Yatesey is catching too many LOL). Snapper schools are still hanging around Ardrossan but the schools have thinned out by the long liners :(

Crabs are still being caught in the upper reaches of St Vincent Gulf in around 5 metres of water. Snook numbers are improving at Port Hughes and Port Vic. Try trawling past Deadmans reef and Beatrice rock at Port Vic and head north past Moonta and towards Walrus rock.

FRESHWATER
A customer came in and showed me some nice size callop caught near Blanchtown early this week. Average size was around the 45cm mark with one over 50cm. He was using nightcrawlers. Good catches are also coming from Cobdogla near the snags.

We will be having a special on from Friday with the Dorsal Fin braid. All the small spools 150M - $10, 300M - $15 and 500M spools - $20. That's more than 50% off. So get in there before they are all gone.

Also check out the new 2.9M fishing Kayak we have lots of storage, 4 rod holders, 1 swivel rod holder, paddle all for $498. You can also get the trolley for $99. This is a great buy for anyone wanting to give it a try or even for the advanced.
