Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 25/11/2015

bjorn2fish
  • Cracker weekend with cracker tides coming up. Light winds with slight afternoon breeze on Saturday and even better on Sunday :)

METRO
Most of the beaches have been good on the yellowfin and it looks as though they are moving in big time. Tennyson, Grange, Semaphore are doing well and there are some down the southern beaches as well. The northern beaches like Webb and Thompson's are doing well in the channels also. Nice bream are being caught in West Lakes as Ethan and Riley has already shown us. So take the kids out for a fish this weekend and try near the rowing club. I'm sure the kids will have a great day.Brighton is still turning it on for garfish and squid along with some king george whiting on the patches. Grange has some nice tommies and garfish but the gar can be finicky. This is so around Semaphore also but there is plenty out there. Try early mornings or off the jetties at night for better results. Crabs are mixed with some average ones and some large specimens coming from the same area. Try very oily baits for best results like Kootas, Mackeral or our burley pilchards. A few small mullway were caught near the fishermans wharfe last week and a few better fish from the quarrentine station. Salmon trout are still in the river from North Arm to St Kilda but not in big numbers. Mullet have moved into the creeks and they are big fish. Burley heavy for best results. Don't be frightened to get in shallow. Some nice yellowfin whiting have also been caught of St Kilda with the fish being good size. Squid are still being caught along the metro coast from Brighton down to the Bower Road ground. Snook are pretty much everywhere and some nice fish are also coming from the jetties late afternoon.

YORKE PENINSULA
Whiting catches continue from Wallaroo down to Hardwick Bay. Best places are Wallaroo south, Port Hughes in around Kemps and Coopers late arfternoons. Balgowan, Chinamans Well, Port Victoria west of the island and north of Beatrice, Hardwick Bay on the drift grounds north of the town. Edithburgh also has some nice whiting out from Coobowie and also at the light. Garfish are now in full swing in most towns Port Hughes, Wallaroo, Port Broughton, Port Vincent, Ardrossan, Sheaoak, Edithburgh, Coobowie and Price. Squid continue to be around in good numbers at Wallaroo (Which 1 person was caught with 90 odd squid by fisheries), Balgowan, Port Broughton out near the wreck, Rickaby, Edithburgh, Stansbury about 2kms north of town, and Ardrossan south of BHP jetty. Crabs are going well with some nice ones coming from Port Broughton, Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Price, Port Vincent and out from Sheaoak. Again snook are pretty well everywhere on the Yorkes as well but they are huge fish and it is wise to have a good trace line as these fish are litery swallowing them. Great care needs to happen when bringing them in as these fish shake hard and it's common to see the lure come out and hit the fisherman. Netting then is the safest option. My reporter from Pirie says there is still plenty of crabs around and garfish have been slow at times. There is still some nice yellowfin whiting in the river and also some salmon trout and mullet. He says there are a few small kings around too. Marion Bay was slow last week but the nice weather should improve catches. Some nice nannies have been caught out off the shoals SW of Althorpes along with some nice Morwong. Whiting and flathead are being caught out from Rhino's on the slower tides and squid and whiting are coming from the northern grounds in the bay. Salmon have been spasmodic at Browns but better catches came from Royston and Dolphin beach. Flathead are still being caught on plastics in Pondi. Tuna have been spotted out at Wedge so it won't be long now before they will show up along the coasts.

SOUTH
The Coorong have some nice schoolies as well as mullet and a few salmon trout. Salt Creek is still doing well on the mulloway along with a few sharks. Some nice salmon schools have been spotted of the rocks at Parson's but only a few were caught as they have been hanging out wide. Might be a good idea to try Waitpinga beach at night as they tend to come in closer then and there is always a good chance of a mulloway as well.

FRESHWATER
Big carp are pretty well everywhere with the levels stabalising and callop have improved also. Some nice callop are being caught at Renmark, Blanchetown and north of Mannum.
