ive got a 6ft overhead boat rod 50lb braid sambo 3000 reel it holds about 400m of line

Do you know what the rod's line class is rated at? Probably needs to be around the 15-24kg mark?In terms of locations for sharking I would say the more popular spots in the metro area are Semaphore, Henley and Grange.

Sorry what do you mean by that? Are you using a overhead rod with a egg beater? :S But anyway, any 15 to 24kg rod good reel with a solid smooth drag. Off the jetty i would recommend minimum 600m of 24kg or 800m of 30lb and set your drag correctly using a hand scale. You could land them without using all of that line, but it all depends on how it wants to play. But i wouldnt feel confident using any less than that.Look for something like a penn 6/0, 9/0 ( used ) or 900h, If you have a bit more to spend, look at a tld50.
