jackblack86 5
When it comes to lure fishing I'm an absolute amateur. I grew up using bait, catching squid and raking for crabs in my old stomping grounds of whyalla. The use of lures to catch fish is a relatively new one to me but I like it and am desperate to catch my next fish on a lure. The only fish I have caught on a lure is a snook using a paravane behind the tinny but that was nearly 15 years ago. I have a good selection of lures from soft plastic to hard bodies and had a few grabs but no hook ups. Whenever I cast I get follows, wether it be snook, bream or st's. But they just don't seem to hit it. is there something I'm missing? I've tried it all slow, low, high and skimming but I just can't can't seem to entice a hook up
southie THE BANGA 2,304
add a pause to your retrieve..... and plenty of twitches.... think like the lurre you are going to use... and how it would act in real life jackblack86

grego 0
a wise fella once told me. put the squidgy s-factor on every lure u throw in the water. didnt work for hardbodys. but works for softies.for sts. gulp baby shrimp or squidgy wrigglers in bloodworm with a 1/32 weight jig head or lgither will get u hooked up mate. just watch ur line as it sinks and wen it acts wierd ur getting a hit and lift up into it. brenton 637
In about 4 weeks there will be so many salmon trout in the Port/StKilda that it won't matter what retrieve you use you will get a few.Be warned once you start getting them on lure you won't be able to stop. cheers brenton
southie THE BANGA 2,304
Patient's and persistsnce are to key factors as well... took me years to land my first bream on lure
breambo25 1
If you don't get bites on plastics just by making small changes to your tackle can instantly turn the fish on.Use as light a leader as you feel comfortable with, or downsize the weight of the jig head.Or think about changing lures
jackblack86 5
Well thanks all, Managed to get my first fish on a lure on Friday night. Got a 49cm snook from the outer harbor breakwater using a white kinks flick bait. Only scored the one but managed to drop three others. Plenty of fun and definitely getting the big now that I've achieved some results.
breambo25 1
Interesting. Snook seem to really like white minnow SP imitations. The pearl white squidgy flickbaits are what I use when not trolling for them.Congrats jackblack
jackblack86 5
sorry, huge error in my last post. white minnow flick baits are what I was using. Seems to be plenty of snook down there.
