Piranha 76
Ive stripped back and sanded and spray painted 3 solid glass blanks in the last couple of years and sent them off to have fuji sic guides put on ect, 2 rods where 5ft and cost $100 each and another 6ft $120 If you have the blank preped and sprayed it will save you some coin.cheers ShoreJigger
ShoreJigger 171
Is this possible on graphite blanks? Or will sanding damage the blank too much?Found some prices on the rodworks website for a build up.
Piranha 76
Should work on graphite , just go for light sandpaper and stop when you hit graphite best of luck
ShoreJigger 171
Thanks for the info.Haven't actually got the rod to do this with. But was tossing up the idea after seeing some discounted t-curves.Might have a crack with a cheap rovex air strike I have in the rack.
archerfish 685
Hi Phil29Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, but why aren't you starting with a reasonably-priced blank which suits your requirements and working up from there?Cheersaf
ShoreJigger 171
Have been looking into that. Was just seeing if this was an option.Would love to have a crack at this myself one day.
archerfish 685
P29Apparently the ultimate satisfaction is DIY, but I've heard it takes a fair bit of practice to get it right...There are any number of good rod builders around (repeat this mantra: "The 'Search Button' is your friend"!) - they will give you a good idea of what can be achieved and will possibly inspire you to set off on your own journey. As for me, my only experience with this was when I replaced all the guides on an "el cheapo" Jarvis Walker fibreglass rod as an exercise when I was a little tacker many moons ago - for what I thought was a satisfactory result, and I enjoyed the experience. Now that I'm an "old fart", I just buy what I want "off the shelf", as I couldn't be bothered with stuffing around and can't justify the time involved.Good luck whichever way you decide to go...Cheersaf
