  1. Thanks for the tips AFF :)Have you been there a few times? How did you go on your most recent trip?
  2. Wow, thanks alot fellas for the reponses!Looks like I've got a whole lot of spots to try my luck! I'm still after my first one, and I've already put in a good 150 hours of fishing specifically for jewies between this summer and last. I've been in groups where we've caught 40+ lb fish, but still no luck for me.The Dog Fence is definitely in my sights, but I might save that for the end of the year so I can gear myself up for a decent stint there.
  3. Hey fellas, thanks for the info! Much appreciated :)I can't wait to hear what you find out southie!Pete
  4. Hi guys,I'm moving to Pt Lincoln in the very near future, and being a very keen mulloway fisho, I'm trying to find out locations where I can hit the beaches.Problem is, I can't really find anything out about any of the beaches nearby (within 150km) in regards to mullies.Everything written up about the Eyre Peninsula is about the far west coast.Does anybody know more about fishing for mullies from the beaches down the bottom? I would have thought beaches like Gunyah would hold mullies, but you never read about it.Any help? Not asking for any secret spots, just wondering if there are any spots a
  5. What do you guys think of the Synder Glas MT7153? I saw one of the new ones at BCF yesterday (it was for a threadline though) and it seemed pretty indestructible to me. I think I prefer the feel of that rod over the 8144.Pete
  6. Thanks again guys. I still need to get to the shop to check out the 8144 and I'm pretty interested in the Snyders too.PM sent Brent.Pete
  7. Thanks guys for the replies! Keep em coming :)Kelvin - what blanks would you recommend for a custom job?
  8. Well it looks like an 8144 might be what I'm after given that response! Thanks guys, I'll check them out at the shop.Any other rods I could consider?
  9. Hi guys,I'm looking for input into a rod to suit an Alvey 650C5. I've got this spooled with 30 pound mono and I intend to use it for chucking out big baits with 6oz sinkers for big mulloway.I've looked at the Alvey rods (the 6500) themselves, and also the Wilson 13'6 Live Fibre Trophy which looks more like it would do the trick.I've also been looking at trying to find an old Snyder or Butterworth, but haven't found any with a low mount for an Alvey. I also don't really know how heavy to go in the rod to suit my purpose. What rods, new or old, would you guys recommend for heavy surf fishing like
  10. I've just started using live baits for mullies, with no luck yet.Might be my rig though - I just use 3 snooded 7/0 circle hooks in a running rig that would have pillies on it when the live bait is not around. What rigs work best for live baits for mullies?
  11. Hi everyone,My dad bought be a nice Sabre 150-7.5 spin rod for my birthday recently, so I'm looking to get myself a new reel for it. I'm mainly going to be using it at the beach fishing for salmon (flicking 40-60g lures) and chucking out small baits for salmon and mullet etc. What would you guys recommend would be a good reel to start looking at? I'm thinking a price range of anywhere up to about 300 bucks.Cheers for the help,Pete
  12. Hi guys,Unfortunately with other commitments I haven't been able to make it down to meet you :'(But - I fished in the port with my mate on the weekend (dunno where to be honest) and managed to pull a couple of dozen bream ranging from 5cm up to about 15cm...They were biting on pieces of whitebait which we picked up for the STs in the St Kilda channel, which we never ended up fishing. Bigger baits were just getting picked apart.Anyway, I'm convinced to take the plunge and gear up for the bream. I subscribed to SA Angler, and picked up a Daiwa Crossfire 2500 in the process, which I believe shou
  13. Hi guys - thanks alot for all the great help! I feel a bit out of my depth here!I am very new to the sport (most of my experience comes from bait fishing at the beaches down victor way) so I'm slowly coming to grips with everything. Having said that, I've never had a chance to fish with braid, and not only that, but I've never fished for bream with lures. Also never used SPs....i'm a real novice!I'll do my best to make it down to the bream classic on April 5 - would be great to meet you guys in person to talk fish! I'm heading over to KI (middle river - hence my post!) around easter so I'm not
  14. Hi everyone,I'm looking for some tips on getting some bream gear. I've got a rod (6'6" Silstar powertip) and reel (DAM Quick 330) I can use, but in terms of line and rigs I'm at a bit of a loss.At the moment, I'm spooled up with 12lb mono...I'm planning to try out some sp's and some blades in the river. What sort of line (braid, fluoro, mono) would you recommend and what strength? With a lure, do I still need a leader or can I tie it directly to the main line?Cheers,Pete
