Well the forecast for Sunday is mild in the morning till around 1pm when it’s getting fresh. Problem is it’s from the South at this stage and that means blowing right up the gulf and gets a bit choppy as the wind increases.

Past the light you might find a bit of a swell rising during the day, but if your boats biggish and your confident no dramas. I wouldn’t take my Gannet out on a rising southerly and they’re a stable boast even if small.

As for fish gars, snook, crabs, squid all abundant.

I gather the gar & snook are also in the Hughes bay area Brutus, where its a bit more sheltered?

  2. Thinking of visiting Hughes on Sunday, the high is around 0630 however will be 5-10knts wind against tide for the runout.

Only fished Hughes twice in the bay during winter, can anyone tell me its worth going out to the Light in those conditions or maybe wait for a better day?

    cheers.

  3. I used to head to the local oval and practice casting with my old Abu many years ago.

Got a few looks from people, but who cares.

I just kept throwing sinkers and adjusting the spool tension until I felt it was right.

I recon I got to throwing around 100m or so, its good practice.

When doing the real deal you need to hit the brakes when you hit the water or 'you know what' will happen.

  4. Looking for an App that lets me load my GPS marks and also displays chart info like you see on the Navionics Webapp.

I'm currently using Google Earth to load my GPS marks, however would love to check out the chart info on these marks to get an idea of what the depths are and how the channels run in relation to these. Probably something that also shows hazards like reefs, rocks and spits.

Was thinking about the various chart plotters from Navionics, not sure if there is something else available that would better suit my needs?

This would be web based only, with the option of printing and saving as an image so I can take it out in the boat with me as a reference.

There are probably a few apps out there, however before I commit to something wouldn't mind some feedback please.

I'm currently using a Lawrance Elite-5x and a Garmin GPS72 in the boat.

    Probably should update the GPS.
