  1. A mate and i were catching 4lb salmon off the beach at Myponga a fair while ago. We had brined and fresh pilchards. We experimented with both and the Salmon would take the fresh ones over brined most times. After we got bored of that i mixed up a whole sachet of stimulate instant bait and shaped this pink blob into the shape of a fish over my 3 x 4/0 hooks. I talked myself up about the size of the huge salmon i was going to catch with my massive stimulate blob/fish. I gave it the biggest cast you've ever seen and the line snapped and i lost it all. Bloody funny.
  2. ospray i reckon that fish is a gurnard perch. the spines on the top are venomous.they are ugly looking things hey.
  3. You pay a little extra for brined pilchards. My thought is buy the brined ones and save yourself a lot of experimentation and time.
  4. the rumour is the mag minnows have been dicontinued. You will still be able to get pins minnow but they are not the same. If you love the blue or green mag minnow.... Stock up while you can.I've been using the cultiva rippin minnow and they work just as good luckily. Not exactly sure why they deleted them. They sold well down here.Maybe Finatic or Yak can shed some light on this topic....
  5. Flipped your photo around that other way. Hope you dont mind.I reckon the salmon looks bigger this way.

  11. A mate and i caught these crackers at Almonta BeachHad an awesome day. Every cast was a fish. I snapped a handle on my reel trying to wind one in. I ended up holding the line and walking backwards up the beach to get it in.After i broke my surf rod i started using a little 6 foot rex hunt combo. Chucking 20 gm metal lures about 20mt of shore and pulling in 5 lb west coast salmon.A fair few cordials were drunk whilst cleaning them. http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/DSsJ0l7X__Almonta_salmon_web.JPG[/img]

    xmas holidays

For me xmas is pretty busy because of work and family stuff to do.My Mrs is going away for 3 weeks and i want to do heaps of fishing. I'm gonna try put a heap of fillets and squid in the freezer.I also have the charter in Jan so i hopefully will have a good Snapper to cook up.Sometimes it's the cooking and eating of the fish that does it for me.There's something special about eating fresh seafood you just caught, Washing it down with a few beverages with your mates, and a swim in the pool on a hot day.Summer, Summer, Summer

  19. i agree with the regulation of the size and bag limit for Murray Cod.I've never caught one but I'm sure i speak for most people when i say.We want the fish numbers to stay as they are or increase. As with every species i encounter,..... i want my family and future generations to have the same privileges as we had.How many stories start with.....When i was young the fish were so thick.or ....i caught snapper from here.....ori don't fish this gulf because it's fished out.sustainability is importantI'm only 32 but i wanna be able to take my kids fishing when they grow up.I'ts not only about the f
  20. the misses loves fishing and going out in the boat as much as i do. She's a gun with plenty of fishing experience. She picks her own lures, puts on her own bait, takes off her own fish, untangles her own line, and best of all...she bleeds salmon before chucking them in the esky.
  21. is that fair dinkum butters?I've seen a roo on the beach at coffin bay but i didn't think they were the swimming type.More info please.I'm intriguedWhere's the guru when you need him
  22. I went to coles yesterday and saw that john west is selling fresh fillets in the meat section. They are packaged in those trays like steggles or ingham chicken. The range is small i saw.Garlic prawns.Kingfish,Flathead.plus about 7u more that i have forgot already. The prices were about the same but you can have a good look at them and the prices are on the front.I bought 4 flat head fillets for about $10. $40 per kilo i think.Battered them when i got home and the quality was excellent.I'm sure i will be buying more in the future.
  23. Me and a mate have booked a charter out to tapley shoals on jan 19th. after i booked me and butters checked the tides and Jan the 19th is possibly the worst tides for the whole year.12.04 and 0.71That's it for the whole dayShould i still go. or change the date.Anyone fished here with no tides running? If i changed the date and booked the whole boat.Would 6 other members get $200 togetherJanuary some time i'm thinking on a saturday.
  24. hey guys.I use a garmin GPS 72.It's black and white. Large screen fully waterproof and it floats. It is really easy to use and uses very little batteries. It has good back lighting so it is easy to read at night or on a sunny day. If you go with a garmin i will show you how yo use it if you need. These sell for around $299 to $349. If you just want to get to a fishing spot i would say this one. no frills. just the stuff you need.
  25. great start freddyboyI feel bad for taking your name. sorryI use the name fred because it is easy to type on a keyboard as all the letters are next to each other.
