  1. I don't know if you can actually see it in the video but that bigger whiting was to be kept whole, in fact if you pay attention you should see that I am gutting that one rather than filleting it! Vince dad was then going to stuff it with what he says .... Garlic, Olives, etc. and bake it whole! The ones we filleted we ate straight after. Often, on the way back, once we reach 12 Nautical Miles out, if it is a good night, we stop and have tea at sunset! Nothing better with the Sun disappearing in the water!Hope that clarifies it for you,Opti
  2. I wrote it originally for Shane Mensforth for the SA Angler in 1996. Do not remember if I got around to actually give it to him or not, and if I did, I don't know if it ever got published, as that year I also moved back to Italy, where I am from, and the last few months things got fairly hectic for me. I have not seen Shane since I have been back in 2003.Opti
  3. Yorke, you must be one of those lucky ones were the grandparents care to have your kids! Not everyone in Australia is that like mate! KGs, as I call them in short, are my favorite fish. Of course I enjoy jigging for Samson, or trolling for Tunas, or chasing the odd Big Red, but these are all activities that I do now and then. KGs over a kilo are my most priced catch. My best is a 1.54 kg fish but I have actually witnessed a matching pair of almost 3 Kg each!!! They were almost a meter in length!!! At the time I was shown them I had not started fishing, we were in Kingscote holidaying and I k
  4. I will get the maps of that area out of the garage this afternoon. From memory there is more than 1 reef area marked nearby. I will post back after I have checked it.Never launched from Coffin Bay also, what is the approach into Coffin like in a big northerly? And how easy is it to navigate in the Channel for a 50 footer? Are there any real alternatives with an approaching front over there leaving Greenly?I would welcome some local knowledge here, I have never fished west of Thistle.Opti
  5. Dr Josh, I have not been on a Noosa recently but I am sure they will be a good boat too. Would not change my boat though with anything below 35 Feet. She is an awesome fast sea-eating machine with a huge fishing cockpit. We only use it in 4 or 5 people max and with those numbers is like parking a jetty on your favorite offshore reef! Mine is almost 20 years old and she still looks as good today as she did the first day I got it delivered from Quinn Marine in 1993! And now that I have the 2 Optis at the back with full Smartcraft integration into the Northstar M121, it is pure paradise!Opti
  6. Thanks Rotare, I suppose you were writing before I made my posts, so I will accept yours as the last post on this issue. Please if anyone else has started one, just delete it.Please respect my thread here and lets keep it focus on the "Fishing Attitude"Opti
  7. Hi reelin, and thank you also for your welcome! This "using the other boat GPS" business has been going on for ever and always will, I know I cannot fix it, but if I can only convince a few more people than I will be happy. This goes on everywhere, not just in Adelaide, less in remote country area, but it still happens EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD. I think as I said in my article and as you confirmed in your attitude, it is all about "finding" that good spot first and then anchor correctly! These are the best quality of any great boat fisherman as far as I am concerned. But there again, I have had t
  8. I have no problems telling which John it is, owner of the other forum fishsa, as he clearly mentioned in the thread he was having with me. I have never met the guy, don't know him or of him, just had this really bad experience in his Forum, where I have been accused of all sort of things I have never done or thought of doing! Can we now please drop this all thing and move on to "Great Fishing Attitude", unless you want me out of here as well! :silly: Opti
  9. Well said eddie, it really sums up in short what John did not want to understand even after 50 messages! I am now really convinced that he only wants people in his forum that can be potential customers. He has looked at me, thought, this guy would never come on a Charter with me so let's delete him! he could only be troubles for me!I am now pretty much convinced that this is what that forum is there for, not to help the overall fishing community but his own interest! One good thing I they thought me, as I always like to learn something even from the most negative experiences, is that I should h
  10. I agree, it looks like good fun! Is this the same spot fished by Rolf Czabayski with Calipso Star? I am planning a trip there from Adelaide in the next 12 months and I have a few questions:- What depth is the water during this fishing scene? - How safe is the anchorage there overnight? Is it mainly sheltered from the West to S/E only?- If the wind overnight swings to a 10-15 knts North N/E will the anchor hold quite safely? Is it mainly a rocky bottom?- Once there, would it be worth getting also to Pearson or is the fishing fairly similar at these locations?- How far are the Sambos grounds and
  11. Sorry, I thought that most members would already have a glass handy! Thank you for the welcome Mark,Opti
  12. Great to see you here Sean, and also great to have had a chance to chat, I needed it as I was quite a bit upset and frustrated with the all story, as you can imagine.Don't forget to check my videos,Opti

  17. Hi Guys,Here are some footage of our trip last April chasing Tuna. Unfortunately we did not find any between Cape Borda and Neptune even though we knew they were there the week before! I hope you enjoy the footage.Still a great Trip,OptiP.S. 18. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your positive feedback. I was so disappointed tonight when after having come back from work I have noticed that he had deleted the post! What a w*#ker! This is my site, I do as I like, and has you know have made me look ridiculous I will delete your post. A few people had contacted me wondering how he would have replied to that, I guess they have got their answer. I am thankful to Damage for having pointed out this Forum. Hopefully as you say this one isn't run or owned by another mad Charter operator trying to gain business from his forum! Thanks again guys, I
  19. Part 7 (Final)The only other thing worth a mention was a first in my fishing experience. I had previously caught on several grounds around SA a beautiful fish commonly known in our waters as the Blue Devil.Because of its beauty this fish has always been returned to the water as it seems a pity to have to kill such an absolutely beautiful creature. On this occasion though the funny thing was that David caught three different size ones within a few seconds from reaching the bottom on 3 consecutive casts.Does that tell you something or what?It certainly did to an excited observer as I am.By now t
  20. Part 6On arrival at the ramp Jonathan, David, and Scott were there keenly waiting for us, and although Eugene wasn't there, he had decided to head back to Adelaide, as the best we could do was to try for another 'boring' boat limit catch of whitings he thought. We soon seemed to form a nice crue. David had just purchased a boat and although he hasn't yet got a sounder on it, he and Jonathan were quite keen to learn and understand exactly how to use a sounder. So I spent most of the time sounding the area while explaining to them how to read and use it. When we finally marked our likely spot it
  21. Part 5At the start of Day 4 the wind was still blowing hard from the south east so the idea to head south was once again rejected and we decided to take Eugene on our newly discovered whiting grounds just a few miles north of CJ.On arrival the conditions seemed perfect down there even though they must have not been out wide considering that on approaching the ground we crossed the Glenelg fast ferry just less than 200 meters away, obviously put off track by the sea conditions they must have met out wide on their way to Kingscote. In rough weather they must stick to CJ on the shelter of the peni
  22. Part 4Conditions on this day were quite a bit nastier and on arrival at our grounds we were greeted by a defined 2-3 metre sea with the odd scary pattern and I was real glad that we had left Rapid Bay area right at the start of the incoming tide which was going to keep tide and wind in the same direction for the remaining 6 hours. We decided to check the second cray pot first, this is the one left in a hurry without proper locations. After a very uncomfortable manual pulling from 35 metres depth we were surprised to find what we certainly had not targeted with our effort even though it was still
  23. Part 3The weather really got upset with us and, on the way back at 1a.m, I had to cope with an incredibly thick fog all the way to CJ and luckily, I had driven through fog a lot in the past having lived for a few years in a region of Italy called "Emilia Romagna" where from November to March the fog is like the drizzle in England, it's always there.Once home, not after having missed a few times the dirt road turn-off which we could not possibly see, we headed straight to bed with no intentions of waking up. I had had it by this time. A decision was made that we could not be bothered with an ea
  24. Part 2By 12 the wind had moderated considerably and a quick phone call to Terry at the bureau saw us contemplating a very quick trip to a ground that we love fishing off of the north coast of Kangaroo Island. This is a true paradise of lime stone bottom that has always produced for us plenty of King George whiting, snapper, and crayfish, and with dodge tide just the day before the temptation was too strong.A quick check on the GPS told us that trip would take around 30 minutes ( going very fast) so after all we knew that area that well that even if Terry had told us that we only had a 2 hour b
  25. Hi Everyone,I am new to this Forum, but certainly not to boating and fishing. In order to allow members and administrator of this forum to get to know me better, I have decided to post an article I wrote in 1996. This should provide an inside view of yours truly back then! If you want to know more about me now, just drop me a line. I hope you enjoy it and happy reading. OptiPart 1The rush of adrenalin in the few hours preceding a planned fishing trip is always the same, the only difference being that this time instead of driving the boat, I am towing it and I must tell you that is not an easy
