  1. ive got two surf rods, a 144 7w, (12ft)and the other a 153 6w (12' 9")both snyderglass...and fibreglass.they are both awesome rods, and will handle some big fish, but the big rod is the power rod... for really big things, BUT it does get heavy teemed up with the alvey... for true salmon beaches where i wouldnt put it down often, it makes for a tiring day., the extra lentgh doesnt mean extra casting distance... its not about how hard you can chuck a lead, its how fast you can chuck it...with the smaller rod, you will hear the whip on the cast...and they will both sail a bait out about the same distance

  2. tell you what, if your like me, and run two hooks, one just above the other.... ALSO put on a free running 2.0 at the top running between the hooks and swivel , and see what happens....also works as a great keeper hook for the bait to sit nicer, but you will be surprised how many snapper that little 2.0 will snag...now whos going to be the one to try it out?

  3. el cheapo 6.0's from big w.used to run one of them with a gamakatsu circle hook either above of below it..and surprisingly, the red suicide hook from big w was the one that hooked more fish...by about 70/30 %.... the circles DID hook snapper, but not as many as the suicide..BUT this may because im land based, and the fish do run different....they run a lot harder for sure. they both work, but the price difference is phenominal, so dont use cirlces from the stones anymore...in a boat i would use themand im not cheap... just cant see the value in spenindg 40 bucks on hooks im going to lose...

  4. you got me worried now rocknev !! lol i brushed on the 2 part mixture and spun it for maybe 12 min BY HAND too! seemed to have worked ok B)

i hope it dried ok, toherwise it will slowly run around and blob up under the rop.i bought a spit rotator from hardware shop, made a plate to mount it, and ducttape the rod butt to it... its nice and slow turning, and is supported on a couple of rollers on the rod lentgh
  5. Isnt the clear 2 parts like araldite? it comes in 2 small bottles one is hardener from memory the other epoxy resin or somethig . im no expert rod builder . Mix' date='brush on and spin? not sure! but i did it to some of my rods , gave them a shine ,protection and looks good .[/quote']the varnishi use (erskins rod varnish) is a single affair... brush it on and rotate the rod for 12 hrs or so....the thread binding epoxy is a two part affair.... same deal..mix, brush and spin.
  6. Just yesterday I was wondering about my 2 Butterworth surf reels' date=' had them since I was a kid (probs close on 20 years old) done minimal work, a 7000GT and a 8000Gt I think. Was wondering how good they are, nevr realy did much work with them to know[/quote']they will be one of the tuffest and best rods you will ever own.... same class as the snyderglas rods....ive got 3 snyders, and a butterworth... just in my family, there is 7 snyders, and 4 butterworths.and thats not an accident... all running alveys, cept for one of my snyders which is an overhead rod.not one has ever broken, and over the 20 plus yrs we have all owned them, they have done some serious fishing... if anything large takes my bait, ive got total trust in the snyder and the butterworth not to failll, something i cant say about some of the other name brand rods ive owned... some have groaned and creaked that much, i was just waiting for the snap...but im biased as hell towards the rods... and this is why...Posted ImagePosted Image
  7. first things first...BUTTERWORTH.droooooooooooooooooooool... FANTASTIC rod... they later evolved into snyderglas....i know of a very special butterworth/snyderglas, which hasnt been used for about 20 yrs.. the bloke refuses to sell it, but its one of just 5 commemerating the partnership of butterworth/snyder.. and the thread is REAL gold.... it even comes with a certificate and signed by the partners.... would LOVE to get my hands on it... such a beutiful rod....when i redid my snyderglas rod earlier this year, i used ROD VARNISH form the tackle shop... it sealed the rod, and made it all nice and shiny...its holding up very well....

  8. should be my normal spot the day after the ban...bloody night shifts. grrrrrrrrrr.we normally have done pretty well when the ban lifts... couple of yr ago, me and a bro landed 13 in 4 hrs, 4 over 60, and released all but 3 for eating.

  9. one of the best ones ive seen was from a gardening shop.. designed for weeds etc etc around the yard... lad had one on the jetty, and made a great trolley, and doubled up as a seat when he put a chopping board on top... cant think where ive seen them , but they are light, ergonomic desgined, and served this bloke well.

  10. ahahaha I don't know why but I stared at the "photo" for about 2 minutes trying to work out how it was a shark..... hahaha its a bloody video! I think what makes me feel more stupid is you've posted this under "fishing footage" God i'm an idiot :woohoo: Bit too close for comfort though hey

errrrrrrrrrr ummmmmmmmmmmm guilty as charged... im looking thinging WHERE the hell is there a shark in that pic, ??????? and only clicked on it to try and make it bigger... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH a video.... my bad
  11. back from a squid and the butcket is empty... couple of blokes having fun trying to land a shark from shore... never seen a set up like this before thats for sure... 2 balloons sailing out a big hunk of bait, the bloke feeding line out STANDING wasit deep in the water, and the rod up the top of the rocks jammed into the bull bar of the 4wd... i watched with interest, then went for a chat... well, total nutcases it seems, but they hooked one last night but lost it after an hr and half fight.i left them too it.

  12. i had one of them books... when it says the best fishing, it didnt quite work out like that often enough to prove it worked.... so i wont be buying another one.when the fish are there, they are there....my rock fishing, i will catch more on a dodge tide according to my book keeping.and how many fish are normally caught on a dodge tide? .. but all depends on what the wind is doing for me... if its blowing a gale, im in with a better chance....my bro in law swears by his almanac, so much so, he wont even go if everything is not just right... to me that just destroys the fun of fishing.. even if i dont catch a fish, its better than working or sitting around doing bugger all.do the time, reap the rewards....

  13. seriously thinking of an almonta trip next monday for a few days.... if i go, it will be baked beans, sausages, and marinated bbq steak from the best butcher ive ever been to... the steak is too die for....will be hooking up a couple of single burners with the desposible gas canisters, onto some frames i made, which sit on the back of the spare tyre rack on the back of the 4be... gets it all off the ground away from the ants...cant have open fires as its a national parkswag, sleeping bag, and a portable dvd player... sounds like a plan to me.

  14. a draw aye in the casting department  ...consitant good casters ! what material is the drag made of in ur alvey rocknev?if its anything like ht100s for penns ' date='u will slay the bike rider!![/quote'] the drag on my alvey, is a simple rubber and stainless washer set up,using some of each to slow or lock up the spool from turning, operated by my fingertips using a star drag below the handle, wind it in, and it compresses the rubbers which puts load on the spool . .. i tried a lever drag alvey, but found it a bit more work to do quickly...with the star, i can adjust it up or down with the slightest pressure of my fingers....one thing with the alveys is, they will wake you from the deadest of sleeps...and funnily enough, ive not heard two that sound the same...which is a good thing, if i fish with my brothers or mates, i can tell the sound of mine just by the growl its emits.huge rush, to be sitting there, and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH off goes that alvey, goosebumps....
