i know pannies can be caught there however people on this forum have caught some monsters off there. I haven't caught anything legal myself Although one of my mates has caught pannies from those rocks.One thing you need to consider is safety. If you haven't done the trek before you need to be very careful as one slip can break bones and it isn't a stroll in the park. So i would suggest you let someone know you are going and what time you intend to be back in case something does happen they know where you are.

hey just wondering if you land a fish by gaff will it die if you let it go?i have seen some fishing shows release large fish again but assume that if you were to gaff a smaller fish it would die.cheers.Nhan.

went down to north haven again today, another group of 5-6 people went down with spears again. seems like it happens alot around there.I wonder what the fine is...

went snorkling at north haven and saw 2 other guys going out with spears after we came out due to the water being too cloudy cause of the strong winds.lost a net as well when i dropped it when fixing my goggles. so if anyone finds it, its mine. haha.

Thanks for all the replies, we're just using hand nets to land them now. We didnt find too many anyway. Its very daunting when you swim over a batch of water where its too deep to see the bottom.It was our first time doing this sort of thing. Was pretty fun, prob going to get more into it. much better then sitting on a jetty waiting to see that nothing is in you net or going out to rake to only find small ones.

so its fine for me to hand spear for crabs and ensure they are of legal size in and around outerharbour and so forth?

Hi i was just wondering what the rules are and if your allowed to snorkle and spear fish in places like north haven, outer harbour and westlakes?Is it not allowed due to the fact that it is hard to measure fish and crabs?
