  4. The best catch from West Lakes has to be the cuttlefish caught by Enzo about 3 weeks back, nothing unusual about that, except it was caught by hand, no not a hand line, by hand, Enzo just grabbed him by the back of his neck as the cuttlie was swimming alongside of the rocks, where we all met last sunday.Enzo has yet to join the forum, as he has just started on the internet and is learning his way around the keyboard, tomorrow i hope to sign him on, he was at the Social Day, met a few of the people involved, and loves his fishing.[/color:vcvr9l88]

  9. Hey ButtersSounds an interesting way to eat crabs, tell us what they taste like done that way, be interesting to see if the shells cooked up so you could eat them, could save a lot of time having a feed of crabs.[/color:1x5k1qzp]
  10. I have heard the same stories from many years back, people would get wheat bags full or half full of Barley and drop onto their Whiting drops. The bags would rot over time, the barley would expand due to being soaked with the water, and the currents would spread the feed over the area, this would keep the fish nearby and a constant supply of feed for them, I dont know how this would go for a Snapper drop, it should work well for the smaller rugger Snapper. I would imagine that if you dispersed all your unused baits at the end of a session, they would scavenge the area clean, whether it keeps t

  16. Fellow Forum Members,This Poll in now closed, The winning location is [u:1omohpyh]West Lakes.[/color:1omohpyh][/u:1omohpyh] The date will be [u:1omohpyh]Sunday 2nd March from 8.00a.m.[/color:1omohpyh][/u:1omohpyh] till we finish, probably around noon with a sausage sizzle etc. 0715 is High tide of 1.30, the Low is 1258 of 0.75 of course you will have to add 1 hour to these times for daylight savings, so things should be in our favour for a change.I have never fished the lakes, as I am unfamiliar with the surroundings, I suggest we meet at the closest BBQ spot to the Southern end of West Lakes

  19. I have always been a bait fisherman, notice fisherman, not FISHERPERSON!, who ever came up with this bit of P/ Cness should be used as a sinker!!!On the East Coast they have been using lures of some type for many years, we in South Oz have been a bit slow on the change over for some reason, I dont know how the sales compare to fresh baits, those in the game would have a better know how than me.I have tried soft plastics a few times and never had any luck with them, so I have been reluctant to continue with them, although I wouldn't mind giving them a better go again, maybe I can try them when

  21. Hmmmmmmm, favourite reels, now thats a good one to think about, my first favoutite is a Penn Captiva CV4000, the first 2 times I used it we bagged out on whiting (72 ) so it has to be special. My next is a Okuma Stinson SI40, a nice little reel that is easy to use and handle, I also bagged out on KG's on it's maiden workout. My third and most recent favourite is a Jarvis Walker Freespooler 4000 which I bought from Compleat Angler in Wallaroo, just prior to Xmas, loaded it up with 50kg braid, went a Snapper hunting and caught my boat limit at Pt Hughes, with her first two outings, so I have to b

  24. I prefer to go fishing in the afternoon of the tides, there are lots of times when I dont even bother to look at the tides.I am not a morning person, especially an early morning person, I think the best times are at sunset and through till a couple of hours after.I dont always catch plenty of fish, then again If I come in after dark, i dont have to stay up all hours cleaning fish.[/color:2tl86z1f]
  25. I'm a slacko as well, I always say to myself, that I will clean the reels or at least give them a rinse down with water when I put things away, it hardly ever happens. I occasionally give them a spray of WD40 or RP7, if I think about it before I go out next time I will give them another squirt as well, I have had reels seize up on me when I have caught a fish, but I manage to get them going again after a couple of squirts of RP7. Then I promise to give them an overhaul next time when I'm home, somehow i run out of time and give them another squirt of WD40 for good measure. Now this is another t
