  1. Projoe didnt mean to offend you if i did, i havnt done fly fishing for a long time and im out the loop, i have to admit i was thinking in british pounds for some strange reason when you told me the prices lol. Il take a poke in the eye lol.
  2. Any local fly makers from Adelaide that sell flies ?
  3. Im currently using Rio Gold, so far im happy with it. what are other people using ? what is the best ?
  4. Iv got a TFO BVK 2 reel and im happy with it.....just wondered what other people are using ?...I fly fished alot in the uk years ago but have just started to get into it again after about 15 years, the gear has changed alot since then ! I went for a mid to low range reel, but noticed some of the sage and abel reels are up there in price.....are they really worth the coin or are you just paying for the name ? Some fly reels are in excess of 1000 bucks , what do you get for the money ?
  5. Anyone know where or who could set me up with a stainless steel fishing trolley ? need one to pull along jetty's that will hold a few rods ,eskys, tackle bags etc. tired of using poorly made $50 trolleys and making 2 trips back to the car park for more gear, so happy to spend around 150-200 for a decent made stainless type with decent heavy duty wheels etc, would need to me able to be taken apart and assembled easily , and must fit inside a normal sized vehicle as i dont own 4wd. not after any modified stuff from people im after a properly made stainless steel one. im located in Pooraka, 5095.
  6. I dont want to turn this into an argument by the way hahahaa.....there is no right or wrong in regards to this subject. each to their own.
  7. I dont think they are necessarily emotional responses Plankton......you have every right to your beliefs , but for me(and have tried and tested the following items) an older style made in the USA spinfisher is far superior to a modern or chinese made one. A Beastmaster is superior to a TLD. All the modern day Abu's iv used over the years are @#$% compared to the older swedish models. And as for the squall and fathom by penn(iv also used these for a few years),im curious as to what makes you think these are some of the best pieces of kit penn has ever made ? Im not saying that all modern ge
  8. Plankton............would disagree with you in regards to some pieces of kit .........some kit ends up costing the manufacturer too much money (durable expensive components) so they stop manufacturing . not in all cases, but a few. In a few cases it may seem as though they have improved an item, but at times cheaper materials have been used in replacement to cut production cost. and a false sense of "improvement" is delivered to the buyer.
  9. Just for something different , what are peoples favourite all time pieces of fishing tackle that is no longer produced/made . Can be RODS, REELS, HOOKS, MONO, SUNGLASSES ......ANYTHING !! I will start it off by Saying Shimano Beastmaster 50/80 reels......
  10. Anyone live Local to Adelaide/Northern suburbs that could confidently fit one of these drags for me ? PM me if so.
  11. Anyone know if the dog spring HAS to be upgraded for the drag to be replaced with the ht100 drag ? if so , what do the newer ones look like ?
  12. Tight drag.......even on lowest setting of drag its tight...think just because such an old reel....just purchased a whole new set of HT-100 Washers hard and soft to replace the old....hopefully this helps.Iv got lever drag reels but I do love the 12/0.
  13. Just wondering if there are any penn senator guns on here ? need help/advise with an issue . pm me if you are.
  14. My Favs are 15-24kg stroker with roller tip, and my 24kg LBG 8FT . They are the best game fishing rods iv seen the status. sabre second place of course.
  15. If I had the money I would have got a 551 LSI but im happy with my cheaper alternative its very good.
  16. Plankton the Akios is 5:3:1 also, I have found that a steady wind is all that's needed to get hook ups.... I never need to go crazy. The handle is standard but its a lot longer etc than old abu's etc, check them out on line and have a look they are really nice and they are cheaper than abu pro rockets. Abu pro rockets are very nice also iv used a mates and it flys....very very similar to the akios I have . My Akios model is one of the cheaper Akios models , they crank up to around 450 bucks for a higher end model , mine was around half that price and I thought was a very nice pric
  17. Cal I have a 656 cs....as good as if not better than an abu pro rocket. Plankton......I find it so much more satisfying using overheads and being skilled on them and perfecting the skill. but each to there own
  18. Yeah thanks for the comments....I probably wont bother with it.....the people iv spoken to have suggested it doesn't make THAT much of a difference, I just like to be able to cast a long way when fishing for salmon and I don't think it helps with that.....half the experience of salmon fishing for me now is of how far a can cast cleanly ...and the other half is of course catching the fish....the latter would come first though in priority. with a 60g slug I can get between 60-90 metres straight mono 20lb on my akios reel (check em out if you never heard of,,,amazing) I really love distance casti
  19. Has anyone used this or similar in overhead casting reels, like abu's akios etc....does it make a difference to the casting outcome ?
  20. It Definitely makes a difference....tried 60lb wind-on on the abu over the oval and can comfortably hit the 90 + meter mark with no crack offs. Practiced my casting a fair bit also though but wind on definitely helps prevent crack offs with light mono main line
  21. Anyone use wind on leader when using there overhead reels for surf casing ? apparently it can act as a shock absorber and help to achieve long distance casts with decent sized lures without crack offs.
  22. Yeah interesting ..and thanks for uploading that video link....may look into platypus .....never used it. I love to support an Australian product if its decent and affordable. And in regards to "scissors" comment....iv been using one type of "cheaper" braid (there are some absolute shockers out there il admit) on and off (if I can get good deal on a more well known brand il get it) for about 6 years.....never once has the braid failed. Iv landed some decent fish on it..tuna, shark, snapper, etc and although I didn't catch it , I have seen a 40kg grouper caught on same braid personally.
  23. Is that the hollow Jerry Brown or line one ? I don't get why its not being made in Australia ?! I cant be that much of a crazy process to manufacture.
