Is it actually possible / effective to cast (or at least float out) a wet fly on braided line from a boat? Using a spinning reel that is.Any thoughts or tips?

Excuse the dumb question, but I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of flys or fly fishing. Can you use flys on a spinning reel at all? If so, what would you use and when? (boat, shore etc?) Very broad question I know, but as I said the knowledge base is zero. Thanks.
