I currently have one .Which is to get a fish (Bream etc) to take a Popper fly that I have made !!!Or to make a foam Popper fly that doesn't melt in the water :

The book I was thinking of may have been called"The Complete Book of Australian fishing"

I have an old fishing book somewhere that showed pictures of captured Murray cod.Most were like that or bigger well fatter.Can't think what the book was called but it would have been printed in the 1970's/80's.

Looking through my computer files .This is the only picture of the fly i used yesterday.the pink one u can just see .

The eyes are the key to my flies .at times when I lose concentration(ok get bored from no fish ) I watch the inch long bream hit the eyes on my flies.They dont come up well in the pic but they are bright and shinny

I do that now Spook, take it from me, it's a great life.Now that's a dream come true

Its funny about the wind .It wasn't that strong to start with and was behind me all morning.by the time I caught that Bream it was blowing a gale but from behind me.My casts were going further and further,it was great .

Well I arrived at the lake and started fishing at about 7.15 am.it was already warm at 26 c .And I had planned on using my foam popper fly .That's what I did .First section of the lake I waded out to there was no interest in my fly.And after four casts I moved on a few metres. Second spot I tried and second cast pop small Bream was launching its self at the fly .And then nothing four more casts then I moved on .This continued up this section of the lake each time I moved at least two fish would attack the fly .And on several occasions you could here the fly "POP" back onto the surface,plus at

The Foam ?Well I actually had that piece come home with me from work.When it actually worked I asked permission to take some packing foam home,it come free from suppliers.and they said yes .I was very surprised that the super glue and nail polish didnt eat it .

I had it around that if not longer for some reason some one had told me to use shorter leaders.Do find with the longer rod the longer leader the better.And I'm using a gama thingee size 6 But it was the head of the fly causing me problems today.

Actually they needed a fly with a smaller head .I learnt two valuable lessons today .1 Don't make a fly with a huge head on the hook's I'm using.it covers the point .Five lost fish and I have learnt that one.2 when using the 9ft 6wt the longer the mono leader the better the casting.compared with casting with a short leader from Saturday.3 throw in a third one a big fly is hard to cast on a 6 weight i relearnt this one.

That one looks like a gurgler roger.Yep i have tried the purple one .I should have posted yesterday didnt float and the head is to close to the point of the hook .

thanks roger thats way above my level of tying .I spend to much time tying bait fish imitations.But u know I'm going to have learn to tie these flies one day.Have noticed many "bee" like bugs thrashing around on the surface and getting taken .

pink must work on Bream roger I dropped 5 fish today using a badly tied pink headed fly .But i learnt they like pink .You should have seen the stonkers following it .

Purple one

After making a fly that by accident semi Floated .I decided to see if i could make one that does float .hopefully I will try these 2 out on the weekend.Now they are larger than my normal flies but made along the same lines with a foam material(not like the foam from an esky) added into the fly. i made the green one first.

guys don't to upset just yet.IMHO its still early in the season .School holidays Public holidays.Dads taking kids fishing .all of these put added pressure on the fish .with school going back tomorrow and most companies back the pressure will be lessened .Which means to me less guys using bait and taking the fishes attention away from fly and lure guys.Hey even the ethnic group that haunts bower rd left before most aussie bait fishers started this morning.And that certain beach Brenton didn't start performing until around Easter last year.the bait fish schools have not moved in yet .When they d
