Jake7 10
after just spending the last half an hour trying to get the trebles of some lures( to replace with single hooks)is there an easy way to replace them?
samboman 319
Split ring pliers, takes a few seconds Sambo
Jake7 10
 that makes sense, need to invest in these split ring pliers:)
srick 0
haha lol. they look like long noes pliers with a little tab on the end whinch presses the split ring apart for your hooks swivel etc.they are well worth the 20 bucks, try opening the 450lb ones with your hands. no chance. goodluck mate. thefunkychicken 0
Yep, I agree:Split ring pliers + good lighting + patience + a clear area so when the split ring goes flying off the pliers you'll be able to find it again within 30 to 40 minutes.
Jake7 10
yeah i got no chance gonna have to wait for tackleworld to open tomorrow and buy some
thefunkychicken 0
If you're in trouble, you can use a knife (carefully!) to prise the ring apart, then use some small pliers - if you have any - to work the split ring onto the lure. You might find it easiest to put the ring onto the hook first, then attach it to the lure second. The knife method is not as good as purpose built pliers but it is do-able. BEWARE OF CUTS TO FINGIES THOUGH!
Station49 33
Best way to do it without pliers is to start taking the treble off, just slip it through a little bit so you have a gap. Then start feeding the single on at the same time that your working the treble off."60% of the time it works every time."
Jake7 10
well....... after 2 hours i finally done it( with some minor cuts to my fingers)  but the hooks look a little big( size 2 on a sx 40F)they dont look overerly big but would this put off some bream? brenton 637
for a lure the size of an sx40 i use the Smith split ring tweezers, they aren't cheap about 17 bucks but worth it. cheers brenton
Station49 33
personally i would have to say size 2 singles on an sx40 doesnt sound great...is the target bream? personally i'd stick with trebles for these lures, otherwise size 6 decoy trouting singles may be ok
Jake7 10
yeah i mainly target bream, I do like the trebles but theres been a few St around and trying to deal with them in a kayak with trebles flying around isnt that fun i will give them a go tomorrow and see how it go and see how it works
